Christ Church Ends Season With Series Win
Entering play at home on Monday night, Christ Church stood in fourth place one game ahead of their night's opponent, Portland Presbyterian. A Portland sweep would elevate them to fourth. Any other result would earn Christ Church at least a tie for fourth.
Christ Church took the suspense out of a fifth place finish with a six hit, four run first inning. Mike Peak led off the inning with a single. Then after two were out; Paul Hirsbrunner tripled (RBI); David Stierle singled (RBI); Mike Thompson doubled; Billy Kinman singled (RBI);and Charles Smith singled (RBI) before the third out was made. After failing to score after another lead-off single by Mike P., Billy homered in the third to make it 5-0. Charles reached on an error after the home run. After hit-less innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth, Mike P. again led off with a single and scored on a 2-RBI home run by Jerry Hinton in the seventh, and added another two in the eighth when Mike T. singled and Terry Waddle homered (2 RBI) for a 9-0 Game One victory.
Christ Church jumped out to another first inning lead in Game Two, this time a 2-0 lead on a single by Mike P. and a 2-RBI home run by Paul. In the third, Portland scored two to tie the game, but Christ Church answered on a single by Dick Lutz, a triple (RBI) by Jerry and a single (RBI) by David. Christ Church added only two other hits, both singles by David, Billy and Dick. Four runs turned out to not be enough as Ron Million had three triples and five RBI to give Portland a 5-4 win and even the series.
Game Three saw only nine hits, five by Christ Church and four by Portland. Kay Peak got the first hit for Christ Church, a home run for a 1-0 lead. Two outs later Mike P. tripled but died at third. After Portland tied the game in the fifth. After a two out single by Charles and a two out double by Billy, Charles made it 2-1 in the eighth with a home run, a score that held up for the win.
For the season, Christ Church won 12 series and lost 9. They had a winning record against three teams but a losing record against four. They won 34 games and lost 29. For the season, Christ Church out hit their opponents 482-378 and out scored them 224-194.

Christ Church Claims Series
Entering the night having won only one game out of six against St. Matthews United Methodist, and after dropping Game One, Christ Church came back late in Game Two and dominated in Game Three to win the series played at Christ Church.
In Game One, Christ Church took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Mike Thompson. But that lead was immediately erased when St. Matthews scored two an inning later. In the fourth, Jerry Hinton tied the score at 2-2 with a home run. After St. Matthews again took a one run lead, Billy Kinman homered to make in 3-3. But St. Matthews added single runs in the seventh and ninth for a 5-3 win. David Stierle (in the fourth) and Dick Lutz (ninth) added singles and Tom Bennett tripled (eighth) as Christ Chuch managed only six hits.
In Game Two, through seven innings Christ Church could manage only a second inning triple by Jerry and a single by David and a double by Mike T. in the fifth as St. Matthews took a 2-0 lead. Leah Bennett started the eighth with a single and scored on an RBI triple by Billy who scored on an RBI single by Tom to tie the score. The game ended with two outs and no one on in the ninth on a home run by Mike T. evening the series at a game apiece with the 3-2 victory.

Christ Church Drops Two
Christ Church dropped the series Monday night to St. Matthews Baptist Church two games to one.
In Game One Christ Church took a 1-0 lead in the second on a single by Mike Thompson and an RBI triple by Dick Lutz. St. Matthews took a 3-1 lead in the fifth. In the seventh, Mike Peak singled and scored on a triple by David Stierle and tied the score in the top of the ninth when Mike P. singled, Mike T. doubled and David singled to drive Mike P. in from third. Christ Church had runners on third with only one out in each of their scoring innings but were unable to get the single to to score two. That proved fatal as a two out tenth inning home run won the game for St. Matthews 4-3.
Christ Church again scored first in Game Two, again in the second inning after wasting a lead-off single by Paul Hirsbrunner. Charles Smith got Christ Church on the board with a home run. In the fourth Mike P. singled; Mike T. tripled (RBI); David singled (RBI); and Dick tripled (RBI) to score three and make the score 4-0. Terry Waddle singled with two out in the seventh but was left on base. But St. Matthews could manage only two singles, an error and no runs as Christ Church evened the series.
