HARVEY BROWNE TAKES TWO OF THREE
Christ Church lost Monday night's series at Harvey Browne.
In Game One, Bob Stone's first inning home run gave Christ Church an early 1-0 lead which stood up until Jim singled and Fred H. tripled to tie the score in the fifth. Christ Church struck back in the seventh on a lead off single by Dick Lutz, a triple by Mike Peak and a two out single by Charles Smith to score two. In the bottom of the ninth, Ed tripled and scored on Jim's sacrifice. Bill's HR tied the score at three. Tom Bennett's lead-off single was wasted. CHRIST CHURCH EARNS SWEEP
On a night when the weather outside was threatening, inside in Room 005 lightning struck early and often as Christ Church swept the league-leading Watkins Memorial team three games to none.
In Game One, an error by Keith and a home run by Carolyn put Watkins up 2-0 in the first. After Christ Church, went without a hit through two innings, Leah Bennett led off the third inning with a single and scored on a home run by Charles Smith. In the fifth Lean singled again and was driven in by Tom Bennett's triple. Mike Peak followed with an RBI single and Bob Stone made it 5-2 with a triple. Christ Church closed out the scoring with a seventh inning home run by Tom and an eighth inning home run by Bob. David Stierle added a ninth inning triple. The Final- Christ Church 7 - Watkins 2.
Christ Church never trailed in Game Two. In the first, Paul Hirsbrunner singled and Frank Preston homered for a 2-0 lead. After Wedell homered in the second and cut the lead in half, Mike Thompson homered in the bottom half to restore the lead to two. Bob homered in the third. Paul cut into the Christ Church lead with a sixth inning home run. Christ Church closed out the scoring as David singled and Leah tripled in the sixth and in the ninth Mike T. homered again. Christ Church Drops Third Straight Series
After winning Game One, Christ Church lost the last two game on Monday night at St. Matthews UMC.
In Game One, in the first, Mike Peak, David Stierle and Tom Bennett went single, triple, single to take a 2-0 lead. Mike P. (single) and Paul Hirsbrunner (triple) gave Christ Church a 3-0 lead after five and a half innings. In he bottom of the seventh, Jim singled for St. Matthews and went to third on Frank's double. Jim scored and Frank advanced to third as Russell singled. But a double play erased the runner from third. An error from Ralph put runners on second and third and St. Matthews posted their second run on Lou's double. But that closed out the scoring. Paul and Leah Bennett added late inning singles. The Final- Christ Church 3 - St. Matthews 2.
Game Two was another one run affair but the decision went St. Matthews way. Christ Church again scored in the first, pushing three accross on a single by Mike P. a triple by David and a home run by Tom. It was 4-0 going to the bottom of the sixth after David singled and Leah delivered a two out triple. In the bottom of the inning Frank tripled and scored with Frank on his HR. An out later Ralph doubled and Lou homered to tie the score at 4-4. Christ Church added singles from: Leah (with one out in the fourth); Jenny Peak (two outs in the seventh); and David (lead off in the ninth). But all three died on base nand a ninth inning home run by Ralph gave St. Matthews the win. The Final- St. Matt. 5 - Christ Church 4.

St. Matthews Baptist Church beat Christ Church two games to one to take Monday night's series played at Christ Church.
St. Matthews won Game One scoring two runs in both the third and fourth innings. In the third, after two were out, Bill tripled, Bob singled and Jim tripled. In the fourth, a one out double by Dave was followed by a home run by Kelly. Christ Church managed single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. In the fourth, Mike Peak singled and scored on David Stierle's two out triple. Kay Peak's two out homer made the score 4-2 in the fifth and Bob Stone's home run cut the deficit to one Christ Church had singles from David (in the second inning), Mike Thompson (in the sixth ) and Mike P. in the eighth. Christ Church had a chance to tie in the ninth after a lead off triple by David but were unable to produce the single needed to for the score. The final- St. Matthews Baptist 4 - Christ Church 3.
