COMEBACKS

A two out ninth inning tie breaking home run by Tom Bennett in Game Three gave Christ Church a series sweep of visiting Immanuel on Monday night.

Immanuel scored a total of eight runs in the first innings of the three games to put Christ Church down in each game.

In Game One, Buzz singled, Bob tripled and Jared doubled to give Immanuel a 2-0 lead after three darts.  After Christ Church wasted a second inning single by David Stierle, in the bottom of the third, Bob Stone tripled and scored on a single by Mike Peak.  With two outs, Jerry Hinton followed with a triple to tie the score and David followed with a single to give Christ Church a 3-2 lead. A triple by John and a single by Adam tied the game in the fourth.  In the bottom of the inning, Andy Coates singled and Charles Smith made the score 5-3 with a home run.  A home run by Frank closed out the scoring with a home run in the sixth.  Andy and David added singles which were not involved in the scoring. The Final - Christ Church 5 - Immanuel 3.

Immanuel struck for four first inning runs in Game Two. (Buzz - single; Jared- double; John- triple; Frank- HR)  Andy homered to make the score 4-1 after two and it was 5-1 after Frank homered in the third.  In the fourth David, Tom Bennett, Bob and Leah Bennett went single, triple, single, triple to cut the lead to one.  In the fifth, Jerry and David singled and tripled to tie the game at 5-5.  In the sixth it was single, triple, single again, this time by Andy, Mike Peak and Mike Thompson.  Bob Stone homered in the seventh, and in the eighth, Leah singled and Mike P. tripled as Christ Church failed to score in only the first and third innings.  Mike P. and Leah added non-scoring singles.   The Final - Christ Church 9 - Immanuel 5.

A triple by Buzz and a home run by Bob gave Immanuel a 2-0 lead in Game Three which held up through the top of the fifth.  In the bottom of the fifth, Leah led off with a single and, with two outs, Charles tripled and Mike P. singled to tie the game and Christ Church took the lead in the seventh on a two out single by Bob and a triple by Charles.  Jared's homer in the ninth sent the game to the bottom of the ninth tied at 3-3, setting up Tom's game winning HR.  Mike T. and Andy also had singles.   The Final - Christ Church 4 - Immanuel 3.

Portland Wins Opening Series

Christ Church dropped the first series of the new season to Portland, two games to one.

Portland opened the scoring in the second inning of GAME ONE on a single by Barb and a home run by Mike W.   Christ Church took the lead in the bottom of the inning.  Mike Thompson cut the lead in half with a lead off home run.  David Stierle followed with a single and Frank Preston reached on an error and both scored on a two out triple by Andy Coates.  A single by Tom Bennett and a two out triple by David gave Christ Church a 4-2 lead after three.  Portland tied the score in the fourth on a single by Ron and a home run by Mike E.  Christ Church responded in the fifth when Mike Peak singled, Tom tripled, and David singled for a 6-4 lead.  But Christ Church could manage no more runs and Portland scored three in the sixth (Ron singled and David and Mike E, homered) and added one in the eighth (Jimmy homered)  Andy had a ninth inning single.  Final - Portland 8 - Christ Church 6.


In GAME TWO Christ Church failed to score on six hits (singles by Leah Bennett, David, Mike P., Tom and Mike T. and a triple by David).  For Portland, Mike E. homered in the fifth, Barb homered in the sixth, and stheybcored four in the eighth (Jimmy errored; Perry tripled; Barb singled; Ron tripled; and Dave singled.  Final - Portland 6 - Christ Church 0.

Christ Church fell behind in GAME THREE as Mike E, homered in the second inning.  Christ Church tied the game in the bottom of the second on a home run by Mike T.  (breaking a fourteen inning scoring draught)  and took a 3-1 lead on back to back, two out doubles by Andy and Bob Stone.  In the fifth inning Bob doubled, Leah singled and Bob  scored on a single by David to make the score 4-1,  The lead grew to 5-1 the next inning on a home run by Mike T.  After Mike E. homered for Portland in the seventh,  Christ Church scored three in the eighth on back to back homers by Tom and Mike T. and back to back doubled by Charles Smith and Andy.  Jerry added two singles to a thirteen hit attack.  Final - Christ Church 7 - Portland 2.

passed away on May 18, 2011, at age 79.
