For the second week in a row, Christ Church needed a Game 3 win to avoid being swept for the first time this year. We were again successful with a 5-1 victory at St. Matthews Baptist Church. Games 1 and 2 followed a recent trend of low scoring as St. Matthews never trailed and won by scores of 5-2 and 8-1. In game 3, St. Matthews jumped off to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but CCUM scored 2 in the second and had four home runs in the win.
Christ Church entered play with a 33-30 record and trailed first place St. Matthews UMC by 3 games. St. Matthews UMC (36-27) was off this week and so, after last night, CCUM has a record of 34-32 and we are 3-1/2 games back. With six games left, if CCUM sweeps all six games, we will end up 40-32. The magic number (any combination of St. Matthews wins and CCUM loses) is 6.
