In a series marked by hitting streaks by both teams, Christ Church took the opening series of the 2011-2012 season by defeating Portland Presbyterian Church 2 games to 1.
In game One Portland opened the 7th inning with three straight doubles and, after two were out, added a triple, a single and another triple and won the game 7 to 5.
In Game Two, Portland opened the game going single, single, triple, single to take a 3-0 lead before there was an out. But Christ Church, down by a run, matched that with four straight two out doubles in the 7th to score three in to win 6-4.
Game Three went back and forth. At the end of one, it was Christ Church 2. Portland 0. Portland scored 3 in the 2nd and 1 in the 3rd to lead 4 to 2 after two and a half innings. Christ Church tied it with a run in the bottom of the 3rd and another in the 4th. Single runs in the 5th and 6th gave Portland the lead back which they held until the bottom of the 7th when Christ Church scored three for a 7 to 6 lead. Portland scored one in both the 8th and 9th innings to take one run lead. But Christ Church tied it in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extra innings. After scoreless 10th and 11th innings, Portland scored 1 in the top of the 12th for a 9-8 lead. But after two were out in the bottom of the inning, Terry Waddle kept the game alive with a double and Cletus Thompson ended the game with his two run home run for a 10-9 victory.
