Christ Church Wins Series

Entering the night hoping to climb out of a last place tie and facing a second place team trying to cut into a seven game deficit, Christ Church had its best offensive output since week one to beat Harvey Browne Presbyterian two games to one.

Game One was never in doubt as Harvey Browne could manage only one hit.  Christ Church scored 1 in the first, 2 in the third, and 4 in the fourth in a 7-0 victory.  Mike Peak had three hits, including a triple, and scored a run.  Jerry Hinton had two hits, including a triple, scored two runs and drove in two. Mike Thompson had a two run home run.  David Stierle had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two.  Frank Preston had a home run and Terry Waddle tripled and scored a run.

Game Two saw Christ Church answer Harvey Browne's first inning run with three in the bottom of the inning, on a single by Mike Peak, a triple by Jerry Hinton, a single by David Stierle, and a triple by Dick Lutz. Christ Church added single runs in the second though the fifth innings (Terry Waddle doubled and Mike Peak tripled in the second, David Stierle singled and Bob Stone tripled in the third, Terry Waddle and Jerry Hinton both doubled in the fourth and Bob Stone and Frank Preston both doubled in the fifth).  Harvey Browne kept pace with a run in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth and the score after five innings was Christ Church 7 - Harvey Browne 5.  Harvey Browne then added two in the sixth to tie the score and two in the seventh to take a 9-7 lead.  Christ Church could manage only two hits the rest of the way, a solo home run by Mike Peak and a double by Jerry Hinton and Harvey Browne prevailed 9-8.

In game Three, Christ Church again struck early.  Mike Peak singled, David Stierle tripled and Dick Lutz singled for a 2-0 first inning lead.  Harvey Browne tied it in the third and it remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when Terry Waddle homered driving in Frank Preston after his single to make it 4-2.  In the eighth, Harvey Browne cut the lead to 4-3, only to have Christ Church answer with a Jerry Hinton double and a David Stierle triple for a lead and final score of 5-3.

On the night, Christ Church had 34 hits, 20 runs, a collective .312 batting average, 8 doubles, 11 triples, 4 home runs, a .697 slugging percentage and the season's first walk.
