Christ Church Falls To Immanuel

Christ Church started strong Monday at Immanuel when Mike Peak and Dick Lutz led off with a single and triple to score a run. Later in the inning,  Jerry Hinton added a single to drive in Dick for a 2-0 lead.  But Christ Church added only four more hits (Paul Hirsbrunner- single; Jerry Hinton- triple; Dick Lutz- single; and David Stierle- single) and Immanuel had only four hits total and Christ Church took Game One victory by that score.

In Game Two, Christ Church led 1-0 after two (Bob Stone homered);   4-0 after two and a half (Jenny Peak and Mike Thompson had home runs, and Jerry tripled and scored on David's single);   5-3 after four and a half (Dick scored after a single on Jerry's triple).  Immanuel took a 6-5 lead in the seventh,  Christ Church tied it at six in the eighth when Bob Stone doubled and Paul  followed with a triple.  But with one out in the bottom of the last, a home run gave Immanuel the win.  Mike Thompson's double in the first, Jenny reaching base on an error in the fourth, and Mike Peak's one out single in the ninth, all were wasted.

Christ Church could manage only five hits in Game Three.  Jerry singled and scored as Mike Thompson tripled in the fourth for a 1-0 lead.  Mike also singled in the seventh and Kay doubled in the eighth but both died on base.  Trailing 4-1 going into the ninth, Dick Lutz homered but Christ Church fell 4-2.

CHRIST CHURCH WINS SERIES

After dropping Game One to Crescent Hill Baptist Church, a Game Two bottom of the ninth rally sparked by Kay Peak's one out triple, led to a 2-1 series win by Christ Church.

In Game One, an error and a home run gave Crescent Hill a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  A lead off Mike Peak single and Dick Lutz RBI triple cut the lead in half, but Christ Church could not get the single to score Dick.  Christ Church then went hitless until Terry Waddle's lead-off homer in the fifth inning.  By that time, Crescent Hill had added three more runs (on two homers) and the score was 5-2.  One out singles by Dick in the sixth and eighth and a lead-off single by David Stierle in the seventh produced no runs while Crescent Hill added a run on a homer in the sixth to make it 6-2.  Kay's home run in the eighth made the final score 6-3.

Crescent Hill led 5-1 after five and half innings in Game Two, all Crescent Hill's runs coming on home runs.  Mike Thompson doubled in the first and Terry tripled in the second but both were left stranded.  Mike Thompson opened the fourth with a home run, but Terry's single later in the inning and Mike Peak's two out triple in the fifth were wasted.  Christ Church cut the lead to 5-2 in the sixth when Jerry Hinton singled and scored on David's triple.  The lead was cut to one when, with two outs, Mike Peak and Dick had back-to-back homers.  David singled in the eighth but died at first.  In the ninth, with one out and behind 5-4, Kay tripled.  She scored on Mike Peak's single, and he scored on Dick's "walk-off" triple for a 6-5 win.

In Game Three Christ Church took their first early game lead when Mike Peak singled and Dick drove him  in with a triple in the first.  But as in Game One, the single to score Dick was not forthcoming.  Frank Preston homered in the second for a 2-0 lead.  Crescent Hill cut the lead to 2-1 with a fourth inning home run.  But there was no other scoring over the last five and a half innings and Christ Church won the game and the series 2-1.   Frank (single), Mike Thompson (double), and Mike Peak (single) added hits.

Portland Wins Two of Three

Portland Presbyterian won the opening series of the 2012-2013 season, two games to one in games played at Portland.

Christ Church never trailed in Game One, taking a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when Dick Lutz singled, Bob Stone doubled and Paul Hirsbrunner drove both in with a triple.  CCUM made it 4-0 the next inning.  Harry Barsh homered and David Stierle was driven in from third by Dick Lutz's single.  A Portland home run in the seventh completed the scoring in a 4-1 win for Christ Church.  Christ Church had two other hits- Mike Peak had a single; Dick Lutz added his third single.

Christ Church could manager only one hit over the first four innings of Game Two, Mike Peak's lead-off single.  Portland scored one in the first on four consecutive no out singles; two in the second, and one in the fourth.  Mike Thompson cut the lead to 4-1 with his fourth inning home run but Portland matched that with a HR in the bottom of the inning.  David Stierle tripled and Dick Lutz singled to cut the lead to 5-2 only to see Portand add two on a HR to make it 7-2.  Home runs by Dick Lutz in the eighth and Mike Thompson in the ninth made the final 7-4.  Other hits for CCUM- Paul Hirsbrunner, single; Terry Waddle, double.

In Game Three, Christ Church led 4-0 after four and a half innings.  A David Stierle single and Bob Stone triple produced one in the first.  In the third Mike Peak singled and scored on David Stierle's triple.  In the fourth, it was Paul Hirsbrunner singling and Mike Thompson driving him in with a triple.  In the top of the fifth Dick Lutz tripled with David Stierle scoring from first.  A Portland HR made it 4-1 after five.  Mike Thompson's sixth inning HR made it 5-1.  But in the last of the seventh, Portland went single, triple, single, home run to tie the game.  After capitalizing on every hit, CCUM wasted a two out double by Dick Lutz, a lead-off single by Paul Hirsbrunner, and a one out single by Mike Peak over the last three innings and the score was tied after regulation.  Christ Church took the lead in the tenth.  Bob Stone reached on an error ans was driven in by Mike Thompson's triple.  But for Portland, with one out in the 10th, a pair of singles and a triple produced two runs and a 7-6 win in Game three and a 2-1 series win.
