Christ Church Wins Series

On a night when neither team played well and either team could have won three or lost three, Christ Church did just enough to win the night's series against Watkins UMC two games to one.

In Game One, neither team had a hit through five and a half innings, except for a first inning single by David Stierle.  In the bottom of the second, Watkins homered twice to take a 2-0 lead.  Christ Church's second hit came on Mike Thompson's double in the seventh.  In the ninth, Christ Church tied the game.  Down to their last out, Mike T. singled and David followed with a home run to tie the game.  But in the bottom of the inning, Watkins got their third hit in the game, their third home run and they pulled out a 3-2 win.

Christ Church struck early in Game Two, taking a 1-0 lead on a lead-off single by Mike Peak and an RBI triple by David.  In the third, the lead was stretched to 3-0.  Mike P. and Mike T. singled and both scored on David's triple.  In the sixth, Kay Peak doubled and Alan Reinhardt homered to make the score 5-0 which held up as the final score.  Mike T. added a single and Bob Stone a sacrifice in the win.

In Game Three, each team had four hits.  Mike T. singled but was left on base in the first.  Watkins had a double in the third, but the first run came in the fourth on a Watkin's home run.  Mike Peak got Christ Church's second hit, a triple, in the sixth but died on third, as did a Watkin's batter, also in the sixth.  In the seventh, Christ Church tied the game when David homered and took the lead on a home run by Kay.  Watkin's fourth hit was an eighth inning single but Christ Church won the game 2-1 and the series 2-1.
