WEEK TWENTY-EIGHT LEAGUE RESULTS
CHRIST CHURCH CLOSES SEASON WITH SERIES WIN
Christ Church closed the 2016-2017 season by taking two out of three at hosting Harvey Browne in a rare Thursday night series.
Game One went ten innings with Harvey Browne earning a 5-3 victory. First inning singles by Jim and Terry were followed by a triple by Jennifer for a 2-0 lead and Fred's double made it 3-0 after one. Christ Church chipped away at the lead with a run in the third on a home run by Mike Thompson. Bob Stone's scored after a double in the fifth on a triple (RBI) by David Stierle. Dick Lutz tied the game with a seventh inning home run. Vince Richards added a first inning double. In the tenth after Christ Church failed to score in their halves of the eighth, ninth and tenth innings, a pair of singles by Terry and Fred and a game winning, walk-off triple by Jennifer gave her four RBI for the game . The Final - Harvey Browne 5 - Christ Church 3.
Christ Church fell behind 3-0 in Game Two. Mike Peak singled in the first but was left on base. In the fourth, back-to-back home runs by Mike and Jimmy and a triple by Bob and a double by Greg put Harvey Browne up by three. Christ Church sliced a run off of the lead on a pair of doubles from Bob and Frank Preston (RBI). Harvey Browne restored the lead in the bottom of the inning on Mike's second consecutive HR. Mike Peak was stranded again after a sixth inning single. In the seventh, Vince homered, Frank and Tom Bennett singled and both of them scored on a (2 RBI) triple by David to tie the score at fours. In the eight Mike T led off the inning with a game winning homer. The Final - Christ Church 5 - Harvey Browne 4.
Christ Church put Game Three away early. With one out in the second, Christ Church put up five straight hits- all extra base hits. Vince started it with a home run. Frank, Tom, Dick and Jerry Hinton followed with doubles for a 4-0 lead. A single by Jim and a triple by Jennifer in the fourth accounted for Harvey Brownes' only score of he game. Jerry, in the fifth, and Dick, in the seventh added doubles which did not figure in the scoring. In the eighth, Christ Church started the inning with four straight hits. Mike P singled. A double by Mike T put two in scoring position. Andy Coates RBI single drove in Mike p and a 3 RBI home run by Vince made it 8-1. Dick singled but died at first. The Final - Christ Church 8 - Harvey Browne 1.
Christ Church ended the season in sixth place, nine games behind the champions, Watkins, with a 41-43 record.

Christ Church visited Watkins Memorial UMC Monday night and won the middle game as Watkins took two of three.
Christ Church managed only a pair of hits and no runs in Game One. Leah Bennett singled in the fourth inning and Jerry Hinton singled in the seventh. Watkins scored all their runs on home runs; bach to back by Wendell and Norm in the first; a two run home run by Dick after a double by Andrew; and a fourth inning homer in the fourth. The Final - Watkins 5 - Christ Church 0.
Christ Church led all the way scoring in the first inning of Game Two. Mike Peak led off the game with a single and scored on a triple (RBI) by Jerry. Bob Stone singled to start the second and Vince Richards drove him in with a triple (RBI). Christ Church went up 3-0 in the top of the fifth on a one pout single by Mike P and a triple (RBI) by Tom Bennett. A home run by Andrew in the bottom of the inning reduced the lead to two. Tom's eighth inning single and Dick Lutz's triple (RBI) restored the lead to three. In the ninth, Christ Church added a pair of insurance runs. Sydney Raderer's double was followed by a home run (2 RBI) by Frank Preston. Tom (in the third) and Dick (in the sixth) added singles. The Final - Christ Church 6 - Watkins 1.

In the third, Mike Thompson doubled and scored on Sydney's (2 RBI) home run to tie the game. One out later, Leah singled and scored on a triple (RBI) by Mike P. David Stierle singled (RBI) to score Mike P and put Christ Church up 4-2. An inning later Mike T homered for a 5-2 margin. Keith made it 5-3 with a sixth inning home run and the game was tied after Doug tripled and Andrew singled in the ninth. There was no scoring in the ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth innings although Frank reached on an error in the tenth, David (in the eleventh), Mike T (in the twelfth), and Mike P (in the thirteenth). In the bottom of the thirteenth Wendell's third HR of the game game Watkins the series win. The Final - Watkins 6 - Christ Church 5.

CHRIST CHURCH DROPS SERIES
In a battle of fifth place teams, St. Matthews UMC came out on top Monday at Christ Church.
Christ Church took a 1-0 lead in Game One on a second inning single by Bob Stone and an RBI triple by Dick Lutz. St. Matthews got on the board in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Carl and took the lead an inning later on a double by Herb, a triple by Ralph and a single by Glenn. In the bottom of the fifth, Christ Church retook the lead. Andy Coates singled and scored on a triple (RBI) from Vince Richards. Frank Preston followed with a home run (2 RBI) for a 4-3 lead. Another home run by Ralph tied the game in the seventh and St. Matthews moved in front by two runs in the eighth on a home run by Carl2, a single by Ray and a triple by Carl. Christ Church cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the eight on a single by Leah Bennett and a triple (RBI) by Mike Peak. Down a run in the ninth with one out Andy homered to tie the game and Vince followed with a home run of his own to win the game. Mike P also singled in the fourth. The Final - Christ Church 7 - St. Matthews UMC 6.

The Awards Banquet this year will be hosted by St. Matthews Baptist Baptist Church on Monday, May 8TH at 6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall (next door to the game room). The cost of the dinner, catered by Mark's Feed Store, is $9.00 per person.

Christ Church was swept by host St. Matthews Baptist on Monday night. St. Matthews won the season series nine games to three.
Game One was scoreless through nine innings. Mike Thompson doubled in the fifth; Jerry Hinton tripled in the seventh; and David Stierle singled in the eighth; but all were left on base. In the tenth, after two were out, David tripled and was driven in by Vince Richards on his single (RBI). But St. Matthews sent the game to the eleventh on a home run from Homer. Leah Bennett led off the the eleventh with a single and scored on a two out triple (RBI) by Jerry. But as in the eleventh, St. Matthews was able to tie the game, this time on a lead-off single by Bob and a triple by Jim. Bob Stone led off the Christ Church thirteenth with a single by died on base while St. Matthews was hitless. In the fourteenth, a pair of two out doubles by Derald and Homer gave St. Matthews the win. The Final - St. Matthews 3 - Christ Church 2.
