CHRIST CHURCH DROPS ALL THREE

Christ Church was swept by host St. Matthews Baptist on Monday night.  St. Matthews won the season series nine games to three.

Game One was scoreless through nine innings.  Mike Thompson doubled in the fifth; Jerry Hinton tripled in the seventh; and David Stierle singled in the eighth; but all were left on base.  In the tenth, after two were out, David tripled and was driven in by Vince Richards on his single (RBI).  But St. Matthews sent the game to the eleventh on a home run from Homer.  Leah Bennett led off the the eleventh with a single and scored on a two out triple (RBI) by Jerry.  But as in the eleventh, St. Matthews was able to tie the game, this time on a lead-off single by Bob and a triple by Jim.  Bob Stone led off the Christ Church thirteenth with a single by died on base while St. Matthews was hitless.  In the fourteenth, a pair of two out doubles by Derald and Homer gave St. Matthews the win.  The Final - St. Matthews 3 - Christ Church 2.

Christ Church took the lead in Game Two in the second inning.  Tom Bennett singled in the first before Bob led off the second with a triple and scored on a triple (RBI) by Jerry.  Christ Church made it 3-0 in the third on a single-triple-single by Leah, Bob, and Jerry.  A home run by Kelly cut into the lead in the third.  St. Matthews took command of the game in the fourth and fifth innings.  In the fourth with two outs, Homer and Helen tied the game with home runs and doubles by Bob and Jim and a triple by Jim were followed in the fifth by home runs by Barb and Homer for a 7-3 lead.  Singles by Andy Coates in the sixth and David in the ninth produced no runs.  In the eighth Mike Peak singled and, after two outs, Jerry tripled (RBI) for Christ Church's fourth and final run of the game.  The Final - St. Matthews 7 - Christ Church 4.

For the third time on the night Christ Church scored first in Game Three.  A single-triple-single by Mike P, Leah, and Andy posted two runs in the first.  A single ( Mike P) and double (Mike T) failed to put a run on the board in the third.  A home run by Helen in the fifth and a single by Jim and a home run by Kelley put St. Matthews up by a run.  A triple by David in the seventh and a single by Mike p eighth were wasted.  Another single by Jim was followed by another home run by Kelly to close out the scoring for the game in the eighth.  The Final - St. Matthews 5 - Christ Church 2.
