FIRST PLACE

With St. Matthews UMC dropping their series with Immanuel and Christ Church winning their series Monday night in Room 005 against Portland, Christ Church moved into a first place tie with S. Matthews UMC.

Portland mounted a furious comeback in the ninth inning of Game One falling just short.  Christ Church led 7-1 going into the top of the ninth.  After wasting a third inning single by Dick Lutz, and after {Portland took a 1-0 lead on a home run by Mike E in the top of the fourth,  in the bottom of the inning Leah Bennett led off with a singled and was followed by a triple (RBI) by Mike Peak, and a single (RBI) by Tom Bennett.   In the fifth, David Stierle singled with one out and scored on a triple (RBI) by Don Meredith, who scored on a two out triple (RBI) by Mike P for a 4-1 Christ Church advantage.  Nick Peak homered in the sixth and Christ Church added two in the eighth on a single-triple-single by David, Mike P (RBI), and Tom (RBI) to put Christ Church up by six heading to the ninth.  Ron led off the ninth with a single and scored on David's two run home run.  Mike E and Barb homered to cut the lead to two but the rally ended there.  The Final - Christ Church 7 - Portland 5.

Portland's rally continued into the first inning of Game Two. A single by Ron and a double by David in the top of the first turned into three runs on a home run by Mike W and became four on a home run by Mike E.  Homers by David and Mike E in the third stretched the lead to six..  In the fourth Leah singled and scored as part of a two run home run by Mike Thompson.  Another home run by David got one run back.  Christ Church posted three in the seventh.  Mike T singled.  Nick tripled (RBI) and Mark Nethary homered (2 RBI) to cut the lead to 7-5.  But Portland tacked on a run in the eighth on Mike E's third home run of the game.  Nick singled in the third and ninth, Don singled in the sixth, and Leah singled in the eighth but none figured in the scoring.  The Final - Portland 8 - Christ Church 5.

Portland took the first lead for the third time on the night in Game Three on  home run by Barb in the top of the second.  Christ Church responded in the bottom of the inning.  Mike T doubled.  Two outs later Mark homered (2 RBI)  to clear the bases.  Dick tripled and scored on a single (RBI) by Don.  Christ Church added a pair of runs the next inning.  Mike P singled and, with two outs, Andy Coates tripled (RBI) and Nick singled (RBI).  In the fourth, Portland trimmed the lead on a solo home run by Mike E but Christ Church matched the run in their half of the inning on a single by Don and a triple (RBI) by Leah.  Mike T produced Christ Church's seventh and last run of he game with a fifth inning home run.  Trailing by six, Portland, again, mounted a ninth inning rally.  Mike W singled and Mike E recorded his seventh home run of the night and Barb homered again but could get no closer than two runs.  The Final - Christ Church 7 - Portland 5.
