Christ Church won Games Two and Three to win the series against St. Matthews Baptist two games to one.
In Game One, Christ Church could only manage six hits for the game and was scoreless until the ninth inning. St. Matthews scored three runs in the fourth and four in the seventh for a 7-1 victory.
Game Two saw Christ Church take its first lead of the night in the first. Mike Peak singled and scored on David Stierle's triple. St. Matthews tied it up at 1-1 in the second inning. In the sixth inning Christ Church scored two on a back to back single (Mike Peak), triple (David Stierle), single (Dick Lutz) for a 3-1 lead and a 3-2 victory.
In Game Three the scoring woes for both teams continued. The game was scoreless until St. Matthews used a double and triple to go ahead 1-0 in the ninth inning. With one out Mike Peak singled and tied the game when he scored on David Stierle's triple. St. Matthews got a lead-off double but was unable to score in the tenth. Charlie Smith then homered with one out in the bottom of the tenth to give Christ Church a 2-1 win and the series victory.
For the night, Christ Church was out hit (28-17 plus 3 runners reached base for St. Matthews with errors) and out scored (10-6). Both teams had 5 triples and 1 home run; St. Matthews had 8 doubles to Christ Church's 1.
St. Matthews entered the night with a 3-1/2 game lead in the standings. They will hold on to that position, but their record fell to 21 - 9. Christ Church (in sixth place to start the night) improved to 12 - 15.
Next week Christ Church places St. Matthews UMC in Room 005. St. Matthews won all three games in their first meeting this year.
