Game 3 victory avoids second straight St. Matthews Sweep

After losing Games One and Two, Christ Church won Game Three 9-5 ending a five game win streak by St. Matthews UMC over Christ Church.

In Game One, St. Matthews scored two first inning runs after a scoreless top of the first by Christ Church.  That score remained until Christ Church tied it up on a Clete Thompson home run in the sixth inning and a triple and single by Jerry Hinton and David Stierle in the eight.  But Christ Church wasted a Bob Stone double in the ninth and St. Matthews scored a run with one out to win 3-2.  The hits were even at seven a piece.

In Game Two, St. Matthews again scored two in the first but this time added one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and added single runs in both the sixth and eighth innings.  Christ Church could manage only six hits and one run in the 8-1 lose.

Christ Church turned the tables in Game Three with two first inning runs.  St. Matthews scored three in the second to take the lead.  Christ Church answered in third with two more runs only to have St. Matthews tie the game in the bottom of the inning at 4-4.  In the fifth Frank Preston doubled and Terry Waddle homered to give Christ Church a 6-4 lead, cut to 6-5 by St. Matthews later that inning.  But St. Matthews could not score again and Christ Church put the game away with two in the sixth (Dick Lutz single, John Frederick RBI triple, Charles Smith RBI single) and one in the ninth (John Frederick single, Charles Smith RBI triple).  Christ Church had sixteen hits in the game to St. Matthews' nine.

For the week, Christ Church was out scored (16-12) and out hit (30-29).
