Christ Church Drops Series
Christ Church dropped two out of three at Harvey Browne Monday night.
In Game One, after taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a triple by David Stierle and a single by Mike Thompson, Harvey Browne scored two in the bottom of the inning (single, triple, single by Terry, Fred and Jim) and one in the second (a HR by Dick) to take a 3-1 lead into the fourth. Christ Church cut into the lead with a run on David's single and a tri[le by Mike T. Harvey Browne answered with a HR by Fred in the bottom of the fourth; a pair of HRs in the sixth (Bill and Dick) and used a pair of doubles (Fred and Bob) to lead 7-2 after seven innings. Christ Church managed to score one in the eighth (Mike Peak singled and scored on a ripple by David) and one in the ninth (Dick Lutz and Bob Stone doubled). Mike P. had a single in the sixth and Dick a double in the seventh, The Final: Harvey Browne 7 - Christ Church 4.
In Game Two, Harvey Browne led 2-0 after five innings, having scored one in the first (Terry singled and Bob tripled) and one in the third (Louise tripled and Fred singled). In the fifth Kay Peak reached on an error and scored on a triple by Mike P. who likewise scored on a single by Jerry Hinton. An inning later Harvey Browne restored their two run lead with a two run HR by Fred after a double by Bill, A single by David and a two run homer by Mike T. knotted the score at 4-4. (Previous to the eighth, David added a triple; Mike T. a double; and Dick single, none resulting in runs,) In the tenth, a one out single by Mike P. was wasted as was a single by Harvey Browne. In the eleventh Mike T. led off with a home run for a 5-4 lead, Charles Smith reached on an error but the extra run could not be pushed across. In the bottom of the eleventh Harvey Browne went three up and three down. The Final: Christ Church 5 - Harvey Browne 4.
In Game Three, Christ Church had 11 opportunities to drive in a base runner- after a one out single by Jerry in the fourth; a lead off error by Bob in the sixth; a lead off single by David in the seventh; and a lead off single by Mike P. in the ninth. But all eleven at bats resulted in no runs being scored. Harvey Browne was barely more productive, out hitting Christ Church 5-3, but managed a seventh inning home run by Fred. The Final: Harvey Browne 1 - Christ Church 0.

St. Matthews UMC Sweeps
Home-standing St. Matthews UMC had an answer to every question asked Monday night.
There were no questions in Game One as St. Matthews scored five times in the bottom of the first. Russell and Glenn opened with singles and, after two were out, Jim tripled, Ralph singled and Frank homered. Three doubles in the fourth (Doug, Russell and Glenn) and an eighth inning home run by Doug gave St. Matthews eight runs for the game. Christ Church got its first hits and a pair of runs in the third on a single by Bob Stone, a double by Jan Waddle, and a double by Leah Bennett (2 RBI). In the fourth Christ Church scored on a single by Tom Bennett and a triple by David Stierle. Jan had another double in the fifth and Bob added a single in the seventh. The Final- St. Matthews 8 - Christ Church 3.
Tom's first inning home run gave Christ Church a 1-0 lead. St. Matthews Homers to Series Win
St. Matthews Baptist Church used twelve home runs to take two out of three games from home-standing Christ Church Monday night.
In Game One, although out-hit ten to nine, five of St. Mathews hits were home runs to take the victory. Christ Church took a 1-0 lead in the second. David Stierle singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Bob Stone. Dick Lutz drove in the run with a double. Home runs by Bill and Barb put St. Matthews in front 2-1 in the third. Christ Church regained the lead in the fifth when, with two outs, Leah Bennett tripled; Mike Peak singled (RBI); and Tom Bennett tripled (RBI); and stretched the lead to 4-2 on a single by David and an RBI triple by Bob. But St. Matthews tied the game in the seventh on a double by David and a home run by Bill. In the eighth a double by Barb and a home run by Kelly and in the ninth a home run by Matt closed out the scoring, Leah, Mike P. and Jerry Hinton added singles for Christ Church. The Final- St. Matthews Baptist 7 - Christ Church 4.

Christ Church failed to score after a lead off triple by Mike Thompson in the fourth; a two out triple by Leah in the seventh and a lead off single by Tom in the eighth. The Final- St. Matthews Baptist 5 - Christ Church 3.
