CHRIST CHURCH OPENS SEASON WITH SERIES WIN

Christ Church opened the 2016-2017 season with a 2-1 series win at Portland Monday night.

Mike Thompson's two out solo home (RBI)  gave Christ Church a first inning lead in Game One which held up until the fifth inning.  David Stierle and Tom Bennett had two out triples in the second and fourth innings respectively.  

Mike Wendell tied the game with a home run in the fifth.

Leah Bennett had a single in the sixth but was left on base.  Christ Church regained the lead in the seventh on a double by Bob Stone and a triple by David (RBI).  In the eighth Mike Peak led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Leah but again Christ Church failed to push a run across.  Christ Church added a run in the ninth.  Tom singled and was driven in on a triple by David (RBI).  The Final - Christ Church 3 - Portland 1. 

Christ Church took the lead in Game Two in the second inning.  Andy Coates doubled to lead off the inning and scored when David tripled (RBI).  

Portland tied the game in the fourth on a home run by David.  

Christ Church made it 2-0 in the sixth as Mike T scored after his single and a triple by Tom.  A home run by Vince Richards (RBI) in the seventh and back to back home runs by Andy and Tom in the eighth gave Christ Church a 5-1 lead.  Christ Church closed out the scoring in the ninth on a pair of doubles by Vince and Mike P (RBI).  Christ Church also got non-run scoring hits from: Mike P- single in the third; and Andy- double in the fourth.   The Final - Christ Church 6 - Portland 1. 

In Game Three, there was no scoring though three and a half innings before Portland took their first lead of the night on a two run home run by Mike and an RBI triple by Jimmy.  

In the sixth Christ Church scored their sole run of the game on a triple by Bob and an RBI double by Vince.  

Larry had a two run home run in sixth for Portland.  

Christ Church added a single by Mike P in the first; an error by Kay Peak in the fifth; doubles by Andy in the sixth and Vince in the seventh; and singles by Mike T in the eighth and by Tom and David in the ninth as Christ Church out hit Portland 8-5.  The Final - Portland 5 - Christ Church 1.
