CHRIST CHURCH DROPS ALL THREE

A week after doing just enough to sweep St. Matthews Baptist, Christ Church could not do enough Monday night in Room 005 to prevent St. Matthews UMC from sweeping them.

St. Matthews posted two runs in the top of the first in Game One on a pair of singles by Glenn and Carl2 and a triple by Carl1. St. Matthews left the door open by failing to cash in on five hits over the final eight innings but Christ Church could manage only three hits: a one out triple by Frank Preston in the third; and lead-off singles by Andy Coates in the fourth and Jerry Hinton in the eighth. The Final – St. Matthews 2 – Christ Church 0.

In Game Two St. Matthews never trailed although Christ Church was able to make a run at them. A triple by Herb and a single by Glenn put St. Matthews up 1-0 in the third. Christ Church wasted three hits through four innings. In the second Andy led off with a single but died at first. Mike Peak tripled with two outs in the third but was left there. Bob Stone died at first after his lead off single in the fifth. Christ Church finally got on the board for the first time on the night when Mike Thompson homered with two outs in the sixth. But that was Christ Church's only run and last hit, while St. Matthews added run on a solo homer in the eight (Herb) and a run in the ninth on a triple by Jim and a single by Ray. The Final – St. Matthews 3 – Christ Church 1.

Christ Church took their first leads of the night in Game Three. A second inning single by Tom Bennett saw Tom die at first. But in the third after two outs, Mike P tripled and scored on a single (RBI) by David Stierle who scored on a triple (RBI) by Jerry. But St. Matthews had the answer with two runs of their own to tie the game in the fourth. Glenn singled, Ray tripled and Carl1 singled to tie the game at two. In the fifth Bob and Vince (RBI) led off the fifth with back to back doubles, Mike P moved Vince to third with a single. After outs by the next two batters, Leah Bennett delivered a single (RBI) to make the score 4-2 in favor of Christ Church. But St. Matthews again responded with a single-triple-single by Jim, Ray and Carl1 to make the score 4-4. Christ Church got a two out triple by David in the seventh but could regain the lead. St. Matthews got the game winning runs in the eight with a single-triple-single by Glenn, Jim and Ray. The Final – St. Matthews 6 – Christ Church 4.

SWEEP

For the first time this season, Christ Church took three games out of three.  Monday nights sweep came at league leading St. Matthews Baptist and avenged a sweep by them back in October. 

Christ Church got off to a quick start in Game One as Dick Lutz led off the game with a single and scored on an RBI triple by Jerry Hinton.  That lead did not last long as Bob led off the St. Matthews' half on the first with a home run to tie the score.  After Christ Church wasted a two out double by Frank Preston in the second, Vince Richards homered to lead off the fourth to give Christ Church a 2-1 advantage.  In the fifth, Sydney Raderer doubled and scored when Dick followed with a double (RBI) of his own.  Dick was also able to score on a triple (RBI) by Mike Peak.  St. Matthews cut the three run lead to two on a fifth inning home run by Homer and cut it to one with a seventh inning home run by Derald.  But that was as close as St. Matthews could get.  Tom Bennett (in the second), David Stierle (in the sixth and eighth) and Dick (in the seventh) provided singles which did not figure in the scoring.  The Final - Christ Church 4 - St, Matthews Baptist 3.

St. Matthews grabbed the early lead in Game Two on a second inning home run by Homer.  Christ Church failed to get a hit two times through the line-up until Leah Bennett singled to open the seventh.  Dick drove her in with a triple (RBI).  Then, with two out-- Mike Thompson singled (RBI); Andy Coates tripled (RBI); Tom Bennett singled (RBI); and David tripled (RBI); as Christ Church tallied five runs on six hits.  In the eighth,  Mike P tripled but died on base while St. Matthews added a run on a home run by Bill.  Christ Church added an insurance run in their ninth on a single by Mike T and a triple (RBI) by Andy.    The Final - Christ Church 6 - St, Matthews Baptist 2.
  
Christ Church never trailed in Game Three.  Leah singled to lead off the game and scored on a two out triple (RBI) by Mike T who scored on a single (RBI) by Jerry.  David singled to open the second and, two outs later, was driven in by a triple (RBI) by Leah.  St. Matthews made it 3-1 on a HR by Barb.  Jerry's sixth inning home run turned out to be the last score of the game.  Christ Church got non-run scoring hits from Andy (single- fourth inning); David (triple- sixth); Mike T (single- eighth); and Vince (double- ninth).    The Final - Christ Church 4 - St, Matthews Baptist 1.

CHRIST CHURCH TAKES SERIES FROM IMMANUEL

Christ Church evened the season's series with Immanuel by winning two out of three at Christ Church Monday night.  Immanuel had beaten Christ Church two to one in September.

Immanuel scored two in the top of the first while never trailing in Game One.  A two run home run by Jared scored David from first..  Through six innings, Christ Church could manage only one hit an inning: a single in the second (by Dick Lutz); a double in the third (by Sydney Raderer); and a single in the fourth (again by Dick).  In the seventh, Dick singled for the third straight time, moved to second on a sacrifice by David Stierle, and scored on an RBI double by Vince Richards.  Immanuel added the only other scoring of the game on a triple by John and an RBI sacrifice by Alan in the eighth.  The Final - Immanuel 3 - Christ Church 1.

 Immanuel also took the lead first in Game Two on doubles by Bob and Jared.  Through five innings this time, Christ Church again scattered their hits: a single in the first (by Mike Thompson); a single in the second (by David); a double in the third (by Frank Preston); and a double in the fourth (by Bob Stone).  In the sixth with two outs, Andy Coates tripled and David followed with an RBI single to tie the game.  In the eighth, Dick led off with a single but died at first.  In the bottom of the ninth, after Immanuel had failed to score in the top of the inning, David led off with a home run for Christ Church's first lead of the night.  The Final - Christ Church 2 - Immanuel 1.

Immanuel scored first again in Game Three.  A triple by Zach and a double by Larry put Immanuel up 1-0.  Singles by Dick to lead off the first and by David to lead off the second were wasted.  In the sixth, however, after two outs, Jerry Hinton got on with a single; Mike T. followed with a triple (RBI); Andy then singled (RBI); David tripled (RBI); and Bob closed out the four run inning with a single (RBI) to give Christ Church a 4-1 lead.  Immanuel tied the game with three runs of their own in the seventh- a double by Brandy; a HR by Bob; and a HR by Jared.  Vince Richards responded to give Christ Church the lead back in the bottom of the inning with a home run (RBI) and Christ Church added an insurance run in the eight on a triple by David and a single (RBI) by Bob.  The Final - Christ Church 6 - Immanuel 4.

CHRIST CHURCH WINS SERIES

Christ Church visited Trinity Presbyterian for the first time Monday night and won two of three.

In Game One, Jerry Hinton led off the game with a single but died at first.  Christ Church struck for the first runs of the game in the second on a single by Tom Bennett, a triple (RBI) by David Stierle and a single (RBI) by Andy Coates.    Mike Peak singled in the third and scored on a triple (RBI) by Tom.  A Trinity home run by Irv cut into the lead in the bottom of the third.  Christ Church had singles from Vince Richards (in the fourth), Leah Bennett (fifth), David and Frank Preston (both in the sixth) without increasing their two run lead.  In the seventh Leah singled and moved to second on a sacrifice from Mike P and to third on a single by Bob Stone.  David followed with a single (RBI) to score Leah and close out the scoring for Christ Church.  A ninth inning home run was all Trinity could add on.   THE FINAL - CHRIST CHURCH 4 - TRINITY 2.

In Game Two, a first inning home run by Thomas gave Trinity the early lead.  Christ Church again wasted a first inning single, this time a single by Leah.   But again, Christ Church got on the board in the second.  Tom led off with a single and scored on a triple (RBI) by Bob.  Frank Preston homered (2 RBI) to make the score 3-1.  Mike P singled in the third and again in the sixth.  He was left on base in the third but scored in the sixth on a home run (2 RBI) by Tom.  David added a single but did not score.  That made the score 5-3, Trinity having scored two in the fourth on back to back home runs by Larry and Irv.   David singled in the ninth but was left on base. THE FINAL- CHRIST CHURCH 5 - TRINITY 3.

 In Game Three, Christ Church could manage only four hits and one run.  Andy reached on an error in the second; Leah tripled with two outs in the third; Vince doubled in the fifth; and Andy singled in the seventh.  But Christ Church's sole run came in the second on a lead off home run by Mike Thompson.  Trinity could manage only two runs themselves, but that was enough, both runs coming in the third on a double by Don, a triple by Steve and a single by Kyle.  THE FINAL - TRINITY 2 - CHRIST CHURCH 1.

BIG GAME LIFTS CHRIST CHURCH

Shaking off its scoring problems for at least one game, Christ Church won its series Monday night as it hosted Portland Presbyterian.

Both teams had eight hits in Game One. Portland struck first in the top of the third with the games first hits and first runs- all with two out. Diana started it with a single and was followed by a triple by Perry, a single by Ron and a triple by David for a 3-0 lead. Christ Church got its first hit in the fourth, a two out triple by Mike Thompson, and its first run in the fifth on a single by David Stierle and a triple (RBI) by Vince Richards.  David's home run scored Portland's fourth run an inning later. Tom Bennett made the score 4-2 with a home run (RBI) in the seventh. Vince was left on base after a two out double. In the eighth, Christ Church made it a one run game on a two out single by Mike Peak and a triple (RBI) by Mike T.   In the ninth David tripled with one out but Christ Church could not push the winning run across. THE FINAL – PORTLAND 4 – CHRIST CHURCH 3.

Portland took an early 1-0 lead in Game Two on a single by Perry and a triple by Ron. But the lead was short lived. Leah Bennett led off the bottom of the first with a single. With two outs, Mike P singled (RBI)) to tie the game; David tripled (RBI) to give Christ Church the lead;  Tom Bennett tripled (RBI); Andy Coates singled (RBI); and Dick Lutz tripled (RBI) to put Christ Church up 5-1. A double by Larry and a home run by Brittany cut the lead to two. But the four run lead was restored as Leah again led off with a single and was followed by Jerry Hinton with a triple (RBI) and Mike P with a single (RBI). The third inning saw both teams again score two runs. Portland's came on a single by Ron and a HR by Barb. Christ Church scored their two on a home run by Andy (RBI), a single by Leah and a triple (RBI) by Jerry. The lead shrunk to three in the fifth on a single by Ron and a triple by David. Christ Church added their last run of the game in the seventh. Mike P singled and scored on a triple (RBI) by Andy. In the ninth a home run by Perry closed out the scoring. THE FINAL- CHRIST CHURCH 10 – PORTLAND 7.

Portland scored first in Game Three on a HR by Larry in the second. Tom singled in the second but was left on base. In the third. Vince and David doubled back to back to tie the score. Singles by Dick (in the fifth) and Tom (in the seventh) failed to produce any runs. In the eighth, Portland went in front again on Mike's home run. But Christ Church answered in bottom of the eighth. David led off with a triple. Leah followed with a single (RBI) to tie the game. Mike P put Christ Church in front with a triple (RBI). Portland went three up three down in the ninth.
