CHRIST CHURCH SWEPT

St. Matthews Baptist Church visited Christ Church on Monday night and left with three wins.

Christ Church took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game One on a single by Mike Peak and a triple (RBI) by Leah Bennett.  That turned out to be Christ Church's only score as they could manage only two more hits over the next twenty-seven outs- singles by Andy Coates and Mike P.  St. Matthews could manage only five hits themselves but four of those were home runs- Homer and Helen in the second; Barry in the fifth; and Bob in the sixth.  The Final - St. Matthews 4 - Christ Church 1.

St. Matthews never trailed in Game Two putting up three runs in the second (Derald- error; Betty- HR; Barry- HR) and two in the fourth (Derald- double; Bob- HR).  After a single by Andy in the second and a triple by Sydney Raderer in the third, a one out sixth inning single by Mike P and a two out triple (RBI) by Mike Thompson got Christ Church on the board for the first time since the first inning of Game One.  In the seventh, Christ Church cut St. Matthews lead to one.  Bob Stone singled and scored on a triple (RBI) from Dick Lutz.  Frank Preston homered (2 RBI) driving in Dick in front of him.  But Christ Church was hit-less over the last eight outs.   The Final - St. Matthews 5 - Christ Church 4.

In Game Three, Mike P singled in the first and tripled in the third but died on base both times.  In he fourth, Mike T doubled in front of Tom Bennett's 2 RBI home run.  Bob doubled in the same inning but was left on base as Christ Church led 2-0.  St. Matthews tied then game with home runs by Betty in the fifth and Bill in the sixth.  Mike P was left on after a single in the fifth and Andy suffered the same fate after a double in the sixth.  St. Matthews took the lead on Helen's eighth inning HR and put the game away with a tree run ninth- Barb-error; Homer- HR; and Betty-HR.  Tom added a single in the ninth for Christ Church.  The Final - St. Matthews 6 - Christ Church 2.
