Frank Preston Powers Sweep

Frank Preston's solo home run in Game Three was the only run of the game as Christ Church completed a sweep of visiting Portland Monday night in Room 005.

Game One was a seesaw affair as Portland got on the board first in the top of the first. After Perry led off the game with a single Barb homered with two outs for a 2-0 Portland lead. Tom Bennett singled in the first but was left on base. Frank cut the Portland lead in half with a third inning solo home run. Portland stretched the lead back to two on a home run by Mike in the fourth. Christ Church took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Mike Peak singled and scored on Mike Thompson's home run (2 RBI) to tie the game. After a Bob Stone single, David Stierle put Christ Church ahead with a triple (RBI). An error for Perry and a triple by Ron tied the game once again at four in the fifth. Christ Church answered to regain the advantage on a single by Tom Bennett and a triple by Mike P. Mike's second home run of the game for Portland tied the score in the sixth. David singled in the sixth but died at first. In the seventh Leah Bennett singled and came around to score on a triple (RBI) by Mike T. Christ Church put the game away in the eighth. Bob doubled to lead off the inning. With two outs, Frank doubled (RBI) to drive in Bob and was followed by a triple (RBI) from Leah and a single (RBI) from Tom for a three run inning and a four run lead. Jimmy's ninth inning home run fell short for Portland. The Final – Christ Church 9 – Portland 6.

Christ Church did not trail in Game Two. Leah singled and Mike T tripled (RBI) for a 1-0 lead after one. An inning later, a single by Dick Lutz was followed by Frank's two out 2 RBI home run. There was no scoring in the fourth through seventh innings. David singled in the fourth and was moved to second on a sacrifice by Vince Richards. Leah singled in the fifth and seventh but was left on both times. A double by Perry and a triple by Ron put Portland on the board in the eighth, but a home run by Mike T restored the three run lead. Jerry Hinton doubled, also in the eighth. Larry added a run for Portland in the ninth with a home run to close the scoring. The Final – Christ Church 4 – Portland 2.

After amassing fifteen hits in Game One and ten in Game Two, Christ Church could only reach base four times in Game Three. Jerry singled twice (in the first and fourth innings) and Bob singled in the eighth. But the games sole run, the game winner and the sweep came on Frank's sixth inning homer. The Final – Christ Church 1 – Portland 0.
