Christ Church led all the way in Game One, taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a lead-0ff single by Don Merideth and a trigle (RBI) by Vince Richrads. David Stierle singled but was stranded in the second. In the third with one out, Don singled and scored on a triple (RBI) by Jerry Hinton. With two outs Leah Bennett singled (RBI) and David tripled to add three runs. Don singled in the fifth; David singled in the sixth and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Mark Nethary; and Leah singled in the eighth; but all were left on base. Christ Church scored in the first inning of Game Two. A two out single by Leah was followed by a triple (RBI) by David. Jerry tripled with two outs in the third; David singled to lead off the fourth; Don singled with two outs in the fifth; David singled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Mike Peak in the sixth; and Leah singled with two outs in the eighth. Christ Church fell behind 4-0 in Game Three. Car1 homered in the second for a 1-0 advantage, Andy Coates doubled with and Ray, Carl1, Ralph and Bruce singled and tripled in the fourth. After Andy was stranded after a double in the second and Mark (double) and Don (single) were left on second and third in the third, Christ Church cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth. Mike P singled with one out and Andy Coates tripled (RBI) and, with two outs, Mark singled (RBI). Tom Bennett's two out single was wasted in the fifth as were Mark's double in the seventh, David's single in the eighth and Mark's single in the ninth. St. Matthews added a run in the eighth on a single by Carl1 and a triple by Ralph. The Final - St. Matthews UMC 5 - Christ Church 2.
CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFF
A coin flip made St. Matthews the home team in the play off for the Championship. It started off well for Christ Church as Don led off the game with a home run and a 1-0 lead. But St. Matthews found the range and put multiple runs up in the third, fifth and seventh innings. In the third four hits (Freddie-triple; Glenn-single; Carl2-single; and Ray-triple) produced three runs. Three hits in the fifth made it 5-2. (Jim-triple; Ray-single; and Carl1-single). St. Matthews closedtheir scoring with four runs on four hits in the seventh on a single by Carl2, a triple by Ray, a single by Ralph and a home run by Russell. Christ Church tallied five more hits but could not push across another run. Needing runners all the hits were singles: David and Don in the sixth; Mark and David in the eighth; and Leah in the ninth.
