CHRIST CHURCH PLAYS LEAGUE LEADERS

Trailing league leading Harvey Browne by five games entering Monday night's play, visiting Christ Church need a good result.

In Game One, Harvey Browne never trailed.  After two and a half scoreless innings  Harvey Browne took a 3-0 lead with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.  Christ Church struck for two runs in the sixth.  Mike Peak singled and scored when Jerry Hinton tripled.  Jerry scored on a single by Paul Hirsbrunner.  Harvey Browne added a run in the seventh and Christ Church added their own in the eighth on another single-triple combination by Mike P. and Jerry.  After seven and a half Harvey Browne led 4-3.  But Harvey Browne put the game away with a three run eighth.  In the ninth David Stierle singled and went to third on a double by Kay Peak.  Mike Thompson drove David in with a single but the final was a 7-4 win for Harvey Browne.  Paul and David added singles in the losing effort.

In Game Two, Christ Church scored three times in the first.  Dick Lutz singled; Kay homered (2 RBIs); and Mike T. homered.  Harvey Browne made it 3-1 with a second inning run and 3-2 with a run in the fourth.  But although Christ Church failed to get a hit in seven of the nine innings and was out-hit 7-5, Mike T.'s second home run in seventh inning made the final score 4-2 and evened the series at a game apiece.  David had a triple.

Harvey Browne homered in the second inning of Game Three and Christ Church went scoreless for six innings.  But in the seventh, Christ Church found some offense.  Mike T. tied the game with a lead off home run.  Paul followed with a single, Mike P. with a triple and David with a single and Christ Church led 3-1.  A scoreless eighth was followed by a Christ Church ninth inning that delivered three more runs.  Mike T. doubled; Paul drove him in with a triple; Mike P. scored Paul with a single; Mike P. scored when David tripled.  The final score was 6-1 Christ Church.Mike added an error and Paul another single as Christ Church took the series 2-1.
