Watkins Wins Series

Christ Church hosted Watkins Monday night in Room 005.

Neither team scored in Game One until Watkins had home runs in the fourth and seventh innings to take a 2-0 lead.  Christ Church took the lead with a three run bottom of the seventh.  Jerry Hinton tripled and scored on Paul Hirsbrunner's single.  Jenny Peak then homered to score herself and Paul.  With the score still 3-2 going into the ninth, Watkins tied the game with a lead-off home run.  There was no scoring in the tenth and the top of the eleventh.  In the bottom of the eleventh, Dick Lutz led off with a triple and, one out later, Jerry Hinton singled to give Christ Church the 4-3 win.  Other Christ Church hits came from Harry Barsh (triple), David Stierle (single), Dick Lutz (single), and Virginia Schlarb (double).

Watkins won Game Two 5-2.  Frank Preston gave Christ Church a 1-0 lead with a second inning home run, but Watkins scored two in the third, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to lead 5-1.  Jerry's single and Paul's triple made in 5-2 but  that was all Christ Church could manage in the 5-2 loss.  David added a triple and a single and Jerry added a single for the game,

Watkins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game Three. Christ Church answered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Mike Peak led off with a single, scored when Dick tripled and Jerry drove in Dick with a single.  In the third Watkins went triple, single, double, homer for a 6-2 lead.  Christ Church cut the lead by one in the bottom of the third.  Mike singled and David tripled.  Christ Church struck for one more in the fourth (Jenny homered) and one in the fifth (Jerry tripled and David singled), to make the score 6-5.  Watkins added three more runs on home runs to win Game Three 9-6.

Christ Church's record fell to 7-11 and will next play league leader Harvey Browne.
