On a night when Christ Church had two of its players out of town; one with a previous commitment; one stuck in E-town on business; and one sick; it looked like a forfeit for having only six players. But Kay Peak responded to a late phone call to prevent the forfeit; and Frank Preston's son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Dana Preston, there to watch, filled in to complete the line-up.
In Game One, Mike Peak, leading off the game, singled on his first dart. But the next twenty-seven batters for Christ Church failed to get a hit. Harvey Browne scored three in the first (Tom-triple; Fred H.- single; Fred W.- home run) and three in the sixth (Jim- single; Fred W.- error; Jim- home run). The Final - Harvey Browne 6 - Christ Church 0.
Game Two was scoreless through three innings and Christ Church's hitless string reached thirty-seven batters. Andy Coates broke that streak with a one out double in the fourth and scored on a two run home run by Bob Stone. An out later Mike Preston homered to make the score 3-0. David Stierle tripled with two outs in the fifth but was left at third. Harvey Browne did not threaten until the ninth when a pair of singles put the tying run up. But an out ended the threat. The Final - Christ Church 3 - Harvey Browne 0.
Game Three was scoreless through five innings. Mike P. singled in the first and Mike Thompson (who had arrived from E-town in time to play in Game Two) reached on an error in the fourth before the two of them combined again , this time in the same inning, the sixth, for a run on a single by Mike P. and triple by Mike T. Frank Preston homered an inning later to add an insurance runfor a two run Christ Church lead. That insurance run proved vital as a seventh inning home run by Tom, cut the lead in half. But there were no more runs or hits in the game. The Final - Christ Church 2 - Harvey Browne 1.
