TWO RUNS A GAME NOT ENOUGH

Christ Church scored only six runs on the night, two in each game in dropping the week's series to Immanuel Monday night in Room 005 to drop behind Immanuel into second place.

Immanuel used a single by Buzz, a double by Jared and a single by John to post the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning in Game One.  Andy Coates (in the second) and David Stierle (in the third) singled for the only two Christ Church hits through seven innings.  Tom Bennett homered to tie the game in the eighth.  In the ninth, Leah Bennett led off the inning with a triple.  Two Outs later Dick Lutz delivered the game winning RBI single.  The Final - Christ Church 2 - Immanuel 1.

Immanuel led all the way in Game Two.  Singles by Buzz and David were followed by a triple by John for a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the inning Leah singled and scored on a triole (RBI) by David.  In the second, back to back doubles by Mark Nethary and Tom Bennett (RBI) tied the score.  But Christ Church managed only two more hits in the game- a third inning single by Mike Peak and a ninth inning single by David.  By the time of the ninth inning single Christ Church was down by three runs, Immanuel having scored single runs in the fifth (a triple by Zach and a single by Buzz), eighth (a home run by Adam) and ninth (a home run by Brandy).  The Final - Immanuel 5 - Christ Church 2.

Immanuel scored first in Game Three.   Third inning singles by Buzz and David and a double by Jared drove in one.  Dick died at first after a second inning single.  Christ Church took their second lead of the night in the bottom of the inning on a single (Bob Stone), triple (Mark - RBI) and single (Mike P - RBI).  But the lead lasted only a half inning and Christ Church failed to score the rest of the way getting only two more singles, both by Mike P.  Christ Church's lead lasted only four batters.  An out; doubles by Adam and Brandy; and a triple by Zach in the fourth made the score 3-2 and was followed by a home run by John in the fifth; and a single by Buzz, a double by Jared and a two run triple by John.  The Final - Immanuel 6 - Christ Church 2.

SWEEP

Christ Church used five multi-run innings to take all three games at Trinity Presbyterian Monday night.

Trinity took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of Game one on a home run by Tom.  David Stierle tripled for Christ Church's first hit of the game in the third but was left on base.  In the fourth, Andy Coates singled and Bob Stone doubled but they were stranded at second and third.  Maddie King got things started in the eighth by reaching on an error.  A triple (RBI) by David tied the game and a two out single (RBI) by Andy put Christ Church into the lead (multi-hit inning 1).  In the ninth Vince Richards added an insurance run with a home run.  Bob also doubled in the ninth but died at third.  The Final - Christ Church 3 - Trinity 1.

Trinity again scored first in Game Two.  This lead, in the first, also came on a home run by Tom.  After a lead off single by Dick Lutz in the first was wasted, in the fourth, Mike Thompson homered (2 RBI) after a single by Andy for a 2-1 Christ Church advantage (multi-hit inning 2).  An inning later a single (David), triple (Dick RBI), single (Andy RBI), and triple (Mike T RBI) plated three (multi-hit inning 3).  In the ninth, a triple by David and a single (RBI) by Dick closed the scoring.  Bob added an eighth inning double.  The Final - Christ Church 6 - Trinity 1.

Christ Church never trailed in Game Three.  Dick again led off the game with a single but died at first.  In the fourth a double by Mike T and a two out home run (2 RBI) by Bob opened the scoring (multi-hit inning 4).  Trinity responded with two runs of their own as Andrew singled and David homered.  Christ Church answered Trinity a half inning later.  Maddie, David (RBI), and Dick (RBI) doubled back to back to back and Andy homered (2 RBI) for a four run fifth (multi-hit inning 5).  In the sixth, Trinity cut the lead to one on an error from Steve, a triple from Andrew and David's second HR of the game.  In the seventh, Dick singled and Andy tripled (RBI) to stretch the lead back to two.  That added run proved to be crucial as David's third HR of the game left Trinity a run short.  Bob added non-run scoring singles in the sixth and eighth.  The Final - Christ Church 7 - Trinity 6.

CHRIST CHURCH OPENS NEW YEAR WITH SERIES LOSS

Christ Church began the second half of the 2017-2018 season by dropping the series to visiting Portland Presbyterian Church.

Game One began well as Christ Church took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a single by David Stierle and a triple (RBI) by Vince Richards.  That lead held up until Portland tied the game in the fifth on a single and triple by Jimmie and Dick.  Another single and triple in the seventh, this time by Ron and Wade, gave Portland a one run advantage.  Vince led off the sixth with a home run to tie the game but that proved to be the last run for Christ Church.  A two run home run by Barb drove in Jimmie in the seventh and a pair of doubles in the ninth by Mike and Jimmie closed out the scoring.  Frank Preston (a double in the second), Andy Coates (a single in the fourth), Mike Peak (a triple in the fifth and a single in the eighth) and Tom Bennett (a single in the ninth) added non-run scoring hits.  The Final - Portland 5 - Christ Church 2.

 Portland never trailed in Game Two after a first inning run in the top of the first.  Ron singled and Wade tripled.  A lead-off home run by Barb put Portland up by two.  After a single by Andy in the second and a single by Mike P in the fourth, Christ Church got on the board in the seventh to cut the lead in half on a single by Dick Lutz and a triple (RBI) by Andy.  Portland restored the two run lead in the eight as Ron and Wade duplicated their first inning single and triple.  A single by Nick Peak and a triple by Mike P sliced a run from the lead.  But Andy died at first ninth after a one out single.

Christ Church got a first inning home run from Mike Thompson and a second inning home run from Bob Stone  for a 2-0 lead which held up as Portland failed to score.  Leah Bennett and Mike P added singles as Christ Church could manage only four hits to Portland's one.  The Final - Christ Church 2 - Portland 0.
