CHRIST CHURCH SWEEPS

Christ Church swept a man-powered depleted Harvey Browne Monday night in Room 005.

Harvey Browne failed to score in Game One.  Christ Church opened the scoring in the third inning on a single by David Stierle and a triple by Bob Stone.  In the sixth, Leah Bennett singled and scored on a triple by Mike Thompson.  David singled to score Mike T. and Andy Coates followed with a triple to make the score 4-0.  In the eighth Charles Smith and Mike Peak homered to close out the scoring.  The Final - Christ Church 6 - Harvey Browne 0.

Christ Church scored first in Game Two.  After a second inning single by Andy was wasted, Mike P. singled and David tripled for a 1-0 lead.  Harvey Browne took a 2-1 lead in the eighth on singles by Bob, Terry and Jim and a double by Fred.  Dick Lutz doubled in the eighth but died at second.  In the bottom of the ninth Leah singled and scored the tying run on a triple by David.  With the score still tied in the bottom of the tenth, Bob doubled and scored on Jerry Hinton's game winning, walk-off home run.  The Final - Christ Church 4 - Harvey Browne 2.

Harvey Browne took a 2-0 lead on home runs by Fred and Jennifer in the fourth inning.    But in the bottom of the fourth Christ Church answered with home runs by Mike T. and Tom Bennett.  With the score tied at two in the sixth, David led off with a single.  Jerry drove him in with a triple.  Andy scored Jerry with a triple and Andy scored with Tom on his home run. Mike P. (in the first inning), Jerry (in the second), and Leah (in the third and seventh), and Andy (in the eighth) added non-run scoring singles.  The Final - Christ Church 6 - Harvey Browne 2.

SERIES LOSS

Despite out-hitting Watkins 31 to 19 Monday night, Christ Church dropped two out of three games.

In Game One, Christ Church scored in the top of the first on a single by Jerry Hinton and a triple by David Stierle.  A home run by Gene tied the score and, in the second and a home run by Norm put Watkins in front, 2-1.  In the fourth, David singled and was driven in by a triple by Mike Thompson to tie the game.  A single by David, a triple by Andy Coates and a single by Leah Bennett made the score 4-2.  In the eighth, a single, triple and single by David, Mike T. and Leah added two more runs in a twelve hit attack.  The Final - Christ Church 6 - Watkins 2.

Watkins scored first in the third inning of Game Two on a single by Doug and a triple by Gene.  Christ Church tied the game on a single by Mike Peak and a triple by David.  A single by Doug and a triple by Jeremy in the fifth and a home run by Dick in the seventh gave Watkins a 3-1 lead.  Jerry's single followed by a triple by Tom Bennett which was followed by David's triple tied the score in the eighth.  After a scoreless ninth, Mike P. singled and David tripled for a one run tenth inning lead.  But Doug and Dick led off the bottom of the tenth with back to back homers for the win,   Other hits for Christ Church- David, single; Leah, two singles; Mike P., single.  The Final - Watkins 5 - Christ Church 4 (in ten innings).

Christ Church started strong in Game Three when Jerry led off with a single and Mike P. followed with a triple,  But Christ Church failed to add to their run wasting a single by Andy, three singles by Lean and singles by Tom and Mike T.  Watkins got home runs by Norm, Bob and Jeremy and a fourth run on doubles by Keith and Norm.  The Final - Watkins 4 - Christ Church 1.

Christ Church Loses Series

St. Matthews UMC continued their recent dominance 0f Christ Church by winning two games out of three Monday night in Room 005.

Christ Church took the lead in the third inning of Game One on a home run by Kay PeakSt. Matthews took a 2-1 lead in the fourth (Ray, Jim, Ralph- single, triple, single).  Christ Church tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a single by David Stierle and a two out triple by Tom Bennett.  Bob Stone followed with an error but Christ Church could not advance Tom for the go-ahead run.  A single by Carl and triple by Ray in the sixth and a single by Carl, triple by Jim and single by Ralph gave St, Matthews a three run lead in the eighth.  Christ Church fought back in the bottom of the eighth, scoring two on singles by Mike Peak and David and a two run triple by Tom.  But St. Matthews regained a three run lead on a single by Amanda, a single by Glenn and a triple by Ray.  Christ Church went three up and three down in the ninth.  Dick Lutz and Bob contributed non scoring singles.  The Final - St. Matthews UMC 7 - Christ Church 4.

Christ Church dominated Game Two.  St. Matthews managed only two runs for the game, one on a third inning on a single by Russell, a double by Frank and a single by Glenn and one in the fifth inning on home run by Frank.  Christ Church scored two in the first (a single by Mike P., a triple by Leah Bennett, and a single by Mike Thompson); scored two in the third (a single by David, a triple by Mike T., and a single by Tom);  two in the fourth (a home run by Charles Smith, and a triple by Mike P and a single by David); and SIX in the sixth (single Dick, triple Kay, single David, triple Leah, single Tom, and a home run by Bob).  Tom and Leah added singles and Mike P. a triple in an eighteen hit attack.  The Final - Christ Church 12 - St. Matthews 2.

Production for both teams dropped off in Game Three.  Bob Stone's second inning home run gave Christ Church a 1-0 lead, but it was the only run they could score.  A first inning single by Mike P., a pair of single by David,  a double by Charles and ninth inning single by Leah were all wasted.  St. Matthews tied the game in the fourth (Glenn singled and Jim tripled), took a one run lead in the sixth (Ray singled and Jim tripled) and added a run in the eighth (a home run by Bruce).  The Final - St. Matthews 3 - Christ Chucrh 1.

CHRIST CHURCH WINS SERIES

Christ Church won two out of three games Monday night at St. Matthews Baptist Church.

Game One was scoreless through four innings until Mike Thompson homered for a 1-0 Christ Church lead.  The lead was increased to 2-0 in the seventh after Leah Bennett led off with a single and scored on a triple by David Stierle.  A single by Jim and a home run by Derald tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.  Christ Church responded in the eighth on a two out triple by Jerry Hinton  and a single by Mike Peak.  Jerry and David contributed non-scoring singles in a seven hit attack.  The Final - Christ Church 3 - St. Matthews Baptist 2.

In Game Two Christ Church could manage only four hits and two runs.  One run was scored in the first on a single by Mike P. and a triple by Leah, and the other came in the fourth on a home run by Andy Coates.  A single by Tom Bennett and a sacrifice by Dick Lutz failed to score a run in the eighth.  A single (Jim), error (Barb), and a double (David) tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.  A single (Jim) and a home run (David) produced a 3-2 third inning lead.  After Christ Church had cut the lead in half, a pair of doubles (Homer and Bob) closed out the scoring in the seventh.  The Final - St. Matthews Baptist 4 - Christ Church 2.

In the first inning of Game Three, Jerry led off with a single but Christ Church failed to advance him.  A single by Andy, a triple by Tom and a single by Charles Smith in the second gave the visitors a 2-0 lead which was cut in half by a pair of doubles (Barb and David ) in the bottom of the inning.  St. Matthews led after four on a double by David and a homer by Bill.  Singles by Mike P. in the third, Tom in the fourth, and Mike P. in the fifth left Christ Church trailing 3-2 after five.  In the sixth, back-to-back home runs by Mike T. and Tom put Christ Church in front 4-3, which became 5-3 in the seventh as Mike P. singled and David tripled, and became 7-3 on an eighth inning on a double by Mike T. and a home run by Dick.  An eighth inning single by Jim followed by a home run by Kelly cut into the lead but St. Matthews fell short in their try for a come back,  The Final - Christ Church 7 - St. Matthews Baptist 5.

JIM SCHLARB, founder of the Christ Church Dartball team
passed away on May 18, 2011, at age 79.
