CHRIST CHURCH WINS SERIES

Christ Church won two out of three games Monday night at St. Matthews Baptist Church.

Game One was scoreless through four innings until Mike Thompson homered for a 1-0 Christ Church lead.  The lead was increased to 2-0 in the seventh after Leah Bennett led off with a single and scored on a triple by David Stierle.  A single by Jim and a home run by Derald tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.  Christ Church responded in the eighth on a two out triple by Jerry Hinton  and a single by Mike Peak.  Jerry and David contributed non-scoring singles in a seven hit attack.  The Final - Christ Church 3 - St. Matthews Baptist 2.

In Game Two Christ Church could manage only four hits and two runs.  One run was scored in the first on a single by Mike P. and a triple by Leah, and the other came in the fourth on a home run by Andy Coates.  A single by Tom Bennett and a sacrifice by Dick Lutz failed to score a run in the eighth.  A single (Jim), error (Barb), and a double (David) tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.  A single (Jim) and a home run (David) produced a 3-2 third inning lead.  After Christ Church had cut the lead in half, a pair of doubles (Homer and Bob) closed out the scoring in the seventh.  The Final - St. Matthews Baptist 4 - Christ Church 2.

In the first inning of Game Three, Jerry led off with a single but Christ Church failed to advance him.  A single by Andy, a triple by Tom and a single by Charles Smith in the second gave the visitors a 2-0 lead which was cut in half by a pair of doubles (Barb and David ) in the bottom of the inning.  St. Matthews led after four on a double by David and a homer by Bill.  Singles by Mike P. in the third, Tom in the fourth, and Mike P. in the fifth left Christ Church trailing 3-2 after five.  In the sixth, back-to-back home runs by Mike T. and Tom put Christ Church in front 4-3, which became 5-3 in the seventh as Mike P. singled and David tripled, and became 7-3 on an eighth inning on a double by Mike T. and a home run by Dick.  An eighth inning single by Jim followed by a home run by Kelly cut into the lead but St. Matthews fell short in their try for a come back,  The Final - Christ Church 7 - St. Matthews Baptist 5.
