Christ Church Loses Series

St. Matthews UMC continued their recent dominance 0f Christ Church by winning two games out of three Monday night in Room 005.

Christ Church took the lead in the third inning of Game One on a home run by Kay PeakSt. Matthews took a 2-1 lead in the fourth (Ray, Jim, Ralph- single, triple, single).  Christ Church tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a single by David Stierle and a two out triple by Tom Bennett.  Bob Stone followed with an error but Christ Church could not advance Tom for the go-ahead run.  A single by Carl and triple by Ray in the sixth and a single by Carl, triple by Jim and single by Ralph gave St, Matthews a three run lead in the eighth.  Christ Church fought back in the bottom of the eighth, scoring two on singles by Mike Peak and David and a two run triple by Tom.  But St. Matthews regained a three run lead on a single by Amanda, a single by Glenn and a triple by Ray.  Christ Church went three up and three down in the ninth.  Dick Lutz and Bob contributed non scoring singles.  The Final - St. Matthews UMC 7 - Christ Church 4.

Christ Church dominated Game Two.  St. Matthews managed only two runs for the game, one on a third inning on a single by Russell, a double by Frank and a single by Glenn and one in the fifth inning on home run by Frank.  Christ Church scored two in the first (a single by Mike P., a triple by Leah Bennett, and a single by Mike Thompson); scored two in the third (a single by David, a triple by Mike T., and a single by Tom);  two in the fourth (a home run by Charles Smith, and a triple by Mike P and a single by David); and SIX in the sixth (single Dick, triple Kay, single David, triple Leah, single Tom, and a home run by Bob).  Tom and Leah added singles and Mike P. a triple in an eighteen hit attack.  The Final - Christ Church 12 - St. Matthews 2.

Production for both teams dropped off in Game Three.  Bob Stone's second inning home run gave Christ Church a 1-0 lead, but it was the only run they could score.  A first inning single by Mike P., a pair of single by David,  a double by Charles and ninth inning single by Leah were all wasted.  St. Matthews tied the game in the fourth (Glenn singled and Jim tripled), took a one run lead in the sixth (Ray singled and Jim tripled) and added a run in the eighth (a home run by Bruce).  The Final - St. Matthews 3 - Christ Chucrh 1.
