CHRIST CHURCH OPENS SECOND HALF

Christ Church opened the 2017 portion of the season by visiting Portland on Monday night.

In Game One, Portland took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a home run by Jimmy and went up 2-0 in the third on a single by Mike and triple by Perry.  After Christ Church failed to score through three innings (David Stierle tripled in the first and Andy Coates singled in the second), a single by David, a sacrifice by Bob Stone, and a home run by Andy (2 RBI) tied the game.  David singled in the sixth but was left on base.  In the seventh, Dick Lutz and Vince Richards homered back to back and a single by Leah Bennett and a triple (RBI) by David put Christ Church up 6-3.  A lead off double by Andy was followed by a double (RBI) by Dick in the eighth and Tom Bennett added an insurance run with a ninth inning solo home run.  The Final - Christ Church 8 - Portland 2.

Christ Church scored first in Game Two on a fourth inning home run by Mike Thompson.  That was the games only score through six innings.  In the eighth, Andy led off with a single; Dick tripled (RBI); after two outs, Leah singled (RBI); Tom tripled (RBI); David singled (RBI); and Mike T tripled (RBI); as Christ Church batted around and scored five runs with four coming after two outs.  Portland mounted a comeback with three runs of their own on back to back to back home runs by Jimmy, Brittany and Mike but could add no more.  Bob (a double in the second) and Andy (a single in the ninth) added hits for Christ Church.    The Final - Christ Church 6 - Portland 3.

Christ Church scored in the first inning in Game Three.  Tom singled and scored on a triple (RBI) by David.  In the fourth, a single by Andy and a triple (RBI) by Vince put Christ Church up by two.  A home run by David in the fourth and one by Jimmy in the eighth tied the score.  But a ninth inning double by Bob and a two RBI home run by Andy closed out the scoring.  Christ Church also got non-run scoring hits from Vince (single in the second); David (triple in the third); and Mike T (double in the sixth).    The Final - Christ Church 4 - Portland 2.
