CHRIST CHURCH DROPS TWO TO ST. MATTHEWS BAPTIST
Christ Church dropped the first two games against visiting St. Matthews Baptist Church Monday night.
Christ Church scored first in Game One. Jerry Hinton singled in the first but was left on base. In the second, Tom Bennett singled and scored on a triple (RBI) by David Stierle. But that was Christ Church's last hit until the ninth. St. Matthews, meanwhile, got a two run home run in the eighth (single by Homer and HR by Matthew) and another two run homer in the ninth (a double by Bill and a HR by Derald) to take a three run lead. Jerry singled with one out but Christ Church could not score. The Final - St. Matthews 4 - Christ Church 1.
St. Matthews started quickly in Game Two putting up two runs in the first on a home run by Bill B after a single by Bill N. Those were the last runs scored by St. Matthews Baptist. But Christ Church, although out-hitting St. Matthews 7-4, could not get two hits in an inning and failed to score. Leah Bennett singled (in the first). Tom singled (second). Mark Nethary doubled (third and fifth). Mike Thompson tripled (fourth). Andy Coates singled (seventh). And Dick Lutz singled (eighth).

In Game Three, Christ Church fell behind 3-0. Bill homered in the first and Matthew had a two run homer after a single by Keene in the second. Christ Church cut into the lead in the bottom of the second. With two outs, David tripled and Andy singled (RBI). Mike Peak tripled with two outs in the third but died there. The lead was reduced to one on a home run by Mark in the fifth. Dick singled in the sixth but it resulted in no runs and Christ Church trailed going to the bottom of the seventh. In that inning Christ Church sent eight batters to the plate scoring four runs on five hits: David tripled; Andy (RBI) singled to tie the game; with two outs, Leah tripled (RBI) to put Christ Church on top; Mike P singled (RBI); and Dick tripled (RBI) to close the scoring. Christ Church sent nine batters to the plate in coming from behind to win Game Three and take the series win Monday night at Immanuel. Game Three entered the bottom of the eighth with the score tied at two a piece. Brandy's second inning home run had staked Immanuel to 1-0 lead. That run was matched by Christ Church in fifth on a home run by Andy Coates. Immanuel broke the tie in the sixth on a home run by Alan. But Vince Richards answered in the seventh with a home run. Lead off singles by Tom Bennett (in the second) and Andy (in the third) and a double by Bob Stone (in the fifth after Vince's HR) all failed to result in a run and the game went to the bottom of the eighth tied. In the eighth, Jared led off with a double and scored on a HR by John. The next batter, Alan, homered for the second time in the game and Zach added a home run with two outs and gave Immanuel a seemingly commanding four run lead. In the ninth, with one out, Dick Lutz and Mike Thompson singled. A second out had Christ Church's backs to the wall. Andy kept in going with a single but the deficit was still four. Bob singled (RBI) and the lead was three with the tying run on first. Leah Bennett was asked to go for a triple and she delivered (3 RBI) to tie the game. Mike Peak singled (RBI) for the lead with all five runs scoring after two outs! In the ninth, Immanuel went three up and three down. The Final - Christ Church 7 - Immanuel 6.

THREE COME-FROM-BEHIND VICTORIES
Christ Church came from behind in all three games in sweeping visiting Trinity Presbyterian Church Monday night.
Trinity took a two run lead in Game One scoring a run in the second (doubles by Tom and Don) and one in the third (a single by Mary and a triple by David). For Christ Church, David Stierle sigled in the second; Tom Bennett singled in the fifth; and Mike Peak singled in the seventh. In the eighth Mark Nethary cut the lead in half with a lead off solo home run. An out later Frank Preston homered to tie the game and send it tied into the bottom of the ninth. Mike P started the ninth with a tripole but Christ Church was unable to come up with the single need to drive him in. The tenth was scoreless. In the eleventh, Jerry Hinton led off with a triple and one out later Mike P delivered a single (RBI) and the victory. The Final - Christ Church 3 - Trinity 2.
Trinity scored in the first inning in Game two. David homered for a 1-0 advantage. Mike P tripled with two outs in the first but died there. In the second, however, Bob Stone led off with a single and Andy Coates followed with a triple (RBI) to tie the score. Two outs later Frank tripled (RBI) and Jerry singled (RBI) to give Christ Church a 3-1 lead. Cathy homered for trinity in the fifth to cut the lead to one. Bob's sixth inning HR got that run back. In the seventh Christ Church added an insurance run on a triple by Jerry and an RBI single by Leah Bennett, and closed out the scoring in the eighth on a home run by Andy. The Final - Christ Church 6 - Trinity 2.

CHRIST CHURCH EVENS SEASON SERIES AGAINST PORTLAND
Christ Church won the weekly series at Portland two games to one last Monday. For 2017-2018 Christ Church and Portland split their games 6-6.
In Game One, Leah Bennett led off the game with a single and scored on a triple (RBI) by Mike Peak. A home run by Mike tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. The game remained tied through seven innings. Christ Church managed singles by Bob Stone in the fifth and Dick Lutz in the sixth but both were stranded. Leading off the seventh David Stierle homered accidentally to put Christ Church on top. He was followed by a single by Maddie King; a triple by Leah (RBI); a single by Mike P (RBI); a triple by Andy Coates (RBI); and a single by Bob (RBI) to score five for the inning and a 6-1 lead. The extra runs proved vital as Portland scored two on triple by Barb and doubles by Christy and Jimmy. David added a ninth inning single. The Final - Christ Church 6 - Portland 3.
