Game Three Come-back Falls Short

Mike Thompson homered with two outs and with Jerry Hinton on first to tie Game Three in the bottom of the ninth.  St. Matthews Baptist had taken a 5-0 lead in the game, scoring one in the first on Kelly's home run; two in the second on a double by Homer and a home run by Bill; and two in the third on a single by Jim and a home run by Derald.  After Christ Church failed to score Jerry in the second after a two out triple, Dick Lutz homered in the third to get Christ Church on the board.  In the fourth, Andy Coates tripled with two outs and was driven in on a single by Jerry.  Andy made the score 5-3 with a sixth inning home run.  Dick singled in the fifth but the score remained 5-3 until Christ Church's tying rally. The come-back was squelched by Matt's tenth inning home run.  The Final - St. Matthews Baptist 6 - Christ Church 5,

The night opened with Christ Church taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game One as Dick,  Leah Bennett and Mike Peak went single-triple-single.  St. Matthews tied the game in the seventh on a home run by Derald, and doubles by Dave and Bill.    In the eighth Mike T. produced the game winner with a home run.  David Stierle added a single and Leah a triple in the win.  The Final - Christ Church 3 - St. Matthews 2.

St, Matthews took a 2-0 lead in Game Two on homers by Derald and Betty.  Christ Church tied it in the third on an error for Bob Stone, a triple by Dick, and a single by Mike P.   Derald's second home run made it 3-2 after three and a half innings.  Christ Church answered and took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the inning on a single by Andy, a triple by Tom Bennett and a single by Bob.  Andy and David added non-run scoring singles and Leah (triple) and Mike P. (single) closed out the scoring in the seventh to clinch he night's series..  The Final - Christ Church 5 - St. Matthews 3.
