MIKE THOMPSON EXTRA INNING HOME RUN SALVAGES WIN

Christ Church continued to struggle to score runs in dropping two of three at Harvey Browne Monday night. Harvey Browne never trailed in Game One taking a 4-0 lead on a two run home run by Mike (after a single by Jim) in the bottom of the first and a pair of home runs in the fourth by Dick and Greg. Tom Bennett reached on an error in the second and Mike Peak tripled in the sixth before Christ Church got on the board in the seventh.  David Stierle singled with one out and scored on a triple by Andy Coates (RBI). Tom Bennett then drove Andy in with a single (RBI) to cut the lead in half. A triple by Bill and a single by Jim moved the lead up to three. Jerry Hinton contributed an eighth inning single and David and Andy added singles of their own in the ninth. The Final – Harvey Browne 5 – Christ Church 2.

Christ Church failed to score in Game Two tallying only three hits- singles by Leah Bennett (in the second), David (in the eighth) and Kay Peak (in the ninth). Harvey Browne scored all their runs on home runs by Mike, a solo home run in the fifth and a three run home run in the eighth. The Final – Harvey Browne 4 – Christ Church 0.

Christ Church took their first lead of the night in the top of the first of Game Three. Mike P. led off with a single and scored an out later by a triple (RBI) by Jerry. With two outs, Jerry scored on a single (RBI) by David and Christ Church led 2-0. In the third, Bob Stone led off with a single and, once again with two outs, David tripled (RBI) and Tom singled for a four run lead. A single by Fred and back to back home runs by Mike and John cut the lead Christ Church to one after six. In the Christ Church half of the seventh, a single by Kay and a triple (RBI) by Mike P. made the lead two. Harvey Browne answered in the seventh on a single by Fred and another home run by John to tie the score at five apiece. Non-scoring hits for Christ Church came from Vince Richards (a single in the second); Mike P. (triple in the fourth); Bob (single in the tenth); and David (single in the thirteenth). But in the thirteenth, Jerry doubled to start the inning and scored ahead of Mike Thompson's game winning home run. The Final – Christ Church 7 – Harvey Browne 5.

CHRIST CHURCH TAKES TWO OF THREE FROM WATKINS

Christ Church hosted Watkins Monday night. Game One was tight all the way. In the Christ Church first, Mike Peak singled and Jerry Hinton followed with a triple (RBI) to edge in front. In the third a one out single by David Stierle and a triple by Leah Bennett (RBI) made it 2-0. That lead was wiped out in the fourth with three runs on a triple from Gene and back to back homers by Norm and Jay. Christ Church regained the lead in the seventh with three runs of their own. Kay Peak started the rally with a lead off double. Then, after two were out, Mike P tripled (RBI), Jerry singled (RBI), and Leah tripled (RBI) for a 5-3 advantage. Dick's eighth inning HR cut the final margin to one. David, Leah and Tom added non-run scoring singles. THE FINAL – CHRIST CHURCH 5 – WATKINS 4.

Watkins evened the series in Game Two. Christ Church fell behind 3-0 (Jay- home run; Dick- error; Gene- triple; and Wendell- single) before they got on the board in the fourth on Jerry's single and Andy Coates' triple (RBI). But that proved to be Christ Church's sole run of the game. Non-scoring hits for Christ Church came from David (triple and single); Jerry (single); and Andy (single). A double by Wendell and a home run by Norm added to Watkins total. THE FINAL – WATKINS 5 – CHRIST CHURCH 1.

Watkins could manage only one hit and no runs in Game Three. Mike P had two singles but did not figure in the scoring. The Christ Church runs came from Sydney Raderer home run (RBI) in the third; Mike Thompson (single) and Dick Lutz (RBI triple) in the fourth; and Jerry (triple) and Leah (RBI single) in the fifth. THE FINAL – CHRIST CHURCH 3 – WATKINS 0.

CHRIST CHURCH SUFFERS SWEEP

St. Matthews Baptist Church came to Christ Church Monday evening and took all three games.

St. Matthews never trailed in Game One after a fourth inning home run by Homer.  Christ Church managed to tie the game in the fifth on a single by Jerry Hinton and a triple by Leah Bennett (RBI)Homer's second home run put St. Matthews back in front in the seventh and a double-double-single-double from Bob, Barry, Jim and Barb added two runs in the eighth.  Tom Bennett homered in the bottom of the eighth to close out the scoring.  Leah, Andy Coates, David Stierle and Jerry added non-run scoring singles.  The Final - St. Matthews 4 - Christ Church 2.

A three run sixth inning put Christ Church up 3-2 in Game Two.  Home runs by Kelly in the first and Bill in the second had given St. Matthews a two run lead.  In the sixth, a single by Mike Peak was followed by a triple from Tom (RBI), a single by Jerry (RBI), and a triple by David (RBI).  But a home run by Helen in the seventh tied the game and a  two run home run by Barb in the  eighth gave St. Matthews the win.  Mike P, Mike T, Tom and Andy added singlesThe Final - St. Matthews 5 - Christ Church 3.

In Game Three neither team scored until the eighth inning.  Christ Church put the lead-off man on in four innings with singles-  Mike P in the first; David in the third; Jerry in the fourth; and Leah in the sixth.  But each time Christ Church failed to come up with the hit necessary to produce a run.  In the eighth, Helen homered for the games first run and, in the ninth, home runs by Barry and Kelly were followed by an error for Barb and a home run by Homer for a 5-0 lead.  A double by Tom and a single by Jerry with no outs put runners on the corners.  Two outs later Mike T (RBI) singled for Christ Church's only run.  The Final - St. Matthews 5 - Christ Church 1.
