CHRIST CHURCH TAKES TWO OF THREE FROM WATKINS

Christ Church hosted Watkins Monday night. Game One was tight all the way. In the Christ Church first, Mike Peak singled and Jerry Hinton followed with a triple (RBI) to edge in front. In the third a one out single by David Stierle and a triple by Leah Bennett (RBI) made it 2-0. That lead was wiped out in the fourth with three runs on a triple from Gene and back to back homers by Norm and Jay. Christ Church regained the lead in the seventh with three runs of their own. Kay Peak started the rally with a lead off double. Then, after two were out, Mike P tripled (RBI), Jerry singled (RBI), and Leah tripled (RBI) for a 5-3 advantage. Dick's eighth inning HR cut the final margin to one. David, Leah and Tom added non-run scoring singles. THE FINAL – CHRIST CHURCH 5 – WATKINS 4.

Watkins evened the series in Game Two. Christ Church fell behind 3-0 (Jay- home run; Dick- error; Gene- triple; and Wendell- single) before they got on the board in the fourth on Jerry's single and Andy Coates' triple (RBI). But that proved to be Christ Church's sole run of the game. Non-scoring hits for Christ Church came from David (triple and single); Jerry (single); and Andy (single). A double by Wendell and a home run by Norm added to Watkins total. THE FINAL – WATKINS 5 – CHRIST CHURCH 1.

Watkins could manage only one hit and no runs in Game Three. Mike P had two singles but did not figure in the scoring. The Christ Church runs came from Sydney Raderer home run (RBI) in the third; Mike Thompson (single) and Dick Lutz (RBI triple) in the fourth; and Jerry (triple) and Leah (RBI single) in the fifth. THE FINAL – CHRIST CHURCH 3 – WATKINS 0.
