CHRIST CHURCH SWEEPS TO CLAIM SOLE POSSESSION OF FIRST PLACE

Christ Church hosted Harvey Browne Presbyterian in a battle of first place teams Monday night.

Harvey Browne scored all their runs in Game One on home runs including a two run homer by Greg and a solo homer by Dick in the first to take a 3-0 lead.  Jerry Hinton led off the Christ Church first with a single but was stranded at first.  Vince Richards homered in the second to slice into the lead.  Jerry again single in the third and was moved to second on a sacrifice by Mike Peak.  David Stierle worked a walk in the fourth, but the score remained 3-1.  In the fifth, Maddie King reached on an error and scored on a triple (RBI) by Mike Peak.  An inning later, Bob Stone tied the game with a two out home run.  Vince followed with a double but died on base.  Frank Preston's lead off double in the seventh did not result in a run.  In the eighth, Harvey Browne took the lead on a home run by Fred W.  In the bottom of the inning, Andy Coates led off with a single and was driven in on a triple (RBI) by David Stierle to tie the score.  Two outs later Maddie singled to give Christ Church the run, the lead and the win.  The Final - Christ Church 5 - Harvey Browne 4.

 Harvey Browne again posted an early lead in the first inning of Game Two as Greg again had a two run home run for a 2-0 lead.  Christ Church could manage only two singles over the first four innings; by Jerry in the first and Mike p in the fourth.  Christ Church cut the lead in half in the fifth on back to back doubles by David and Vince (RBI).  Vince added a double in the seventh but Christ Church still trailed 2-1 going to the eight.  Jerry tripled with one out and tied the game when Mike P singled (RBI).  Dick Lutz followed with a triple (RBI) to give Christ Church the run, the lead and the win.  The Final - Christ Church 3 - Harvey Browne 2.

Christ Church led all the way in Game Three.  Mike P led off the first with a single.  With two outs, Mike Thompson tripled (RBI) and Andy singled (RBI) for a 2-0 advantage.  Bob singled in the second and David singled in the third but the score remained 2-0.  With all six of Harvey Browne's runs on the night coming on home runs, they remained only a hit away from bringing the tying run to the plate.  Christ Church added insurance runs in the eighth.  Mark Nethary doubled and scored on Dick's double (RBI) for a three run lead.  And with two outs Mike Thompson homered (2 RBI) to put the game safely away,  The Final - Christ Church 5 - Harvey Browne 0.
