Christ Church never trailed, led at the end of every inning but one and scored six runs in each game of Monday night's series at St. Matthews Baptist.
Christ Church sent eight batters to the plate in Game One. Leah Bennett started things off right with a lead off single. After an out, Mike Peak tripled (RBI) to get Christ Church on the board. Then with two outs, David Stierle singled (RBI); Andy Coates tripled (RBI); and Vince Richards singled (RBI) to give Christ Church a 4-0 lead after just a half inning. Mark Nethary homered in the fourth and the ninth to account for the last two runs. Leah added non-run scoring singles in the second and third as did Mike P in the fifth, Maddie King in the sixth and Andy in the eighth. St. Matthews Baptist put six men on (four hits and two errors) but failed to score. The Final - Christ Church 6 - St. Matthews Baptist 0.
Neither team scored in the first inning of Game Two- the only inning Christ Church did not lead all night. Mike Thompson homered for a 1-0 led in the top of the second and a single by Jerry Hinton and a triple (RBI) by David made it 2-0. The lead was doubled in the fifth on a double by Mark, a double (RBI) by Jerry and a triple by David. St. Matthews countered those runs with back to back home runs in the sixth by Floyd and Curtis and cut the lead to just a run with back to back doubles in the eighth from Susan and Floyd. Vince made it a two run lead with a lead-off home run and the lead grew to three as Bob Stone reached on an error, moved to third on a double by Mark and scored on a single (RBI) by Jerry. Vince (double) and Tom Bennett (single) also had hits. The Final - Christ Church 6 - St. Matthews Baptist 3.
Tom opened the scoring with a home run in the top of the first of Game Three and Christ Church had their second four run inning of the night in the third. With one out Leah singled, Tom tripled (RBI), and David Singled (RBI). Then with two outs, Andy tripled (RBI) and Vince singled (RBI) for a five run lead. Floyd produced St, Matthews first run with a home run in the bottom of the third but was immediately answered by Mark's third home run of the night in the fourth. Leah had singles in the fourth and ninth and David had a seventh inning triple. St. Matthews fought back with single runs in the seventh (Derald doubled and Keene tripled); eighth (Bill homered); and ninth (Keene homered). The Final - Christ Church 6 - St. Matthews Baptist 4.
