CHRSIT CHURCH TAKES SERIES FROM ST. MATTHEWS UMC

Christ Church took Games One and Two from visiting St. Matthews United Methodist Church Monday night.

St. Matthews led Game One 1-0 on a single by Carl2 and a triple by Jim going into the bottom of the second.  After wasting a two out triple by Jerry Hinton in the first Christ Church sent eleven batters to the plate in the second.  Mike Thompson started the onslaught with a lead off home run.  After a single by Tom Bennett, Bob Stone homered (2 RBI) to put Christ Church on top.  Mark Nethary followed with a triple and, an out later, scored on a single (RBI) by Leah Bennett who scored on a triple (RBI)by Mike P who was driven in on a single (RBI) from Jerry.  A two out triple (RBI) by Mike T (his second extra-base hit of the inning) made the score 7-1.  St. Matthews closed to within four with a two run third (Glenn- single; Ray- triple; Carl1 single) only to have Christ Church strike again in the sixth.  With two outs, Leah, Mike P (RBI), Jerry (RNI) and David (RBI) went single-triple-single-triple to score three and close out the scoring.  David (single); Mark (double) and Leah (single) added hits to a sixteen hit Christ Church offense.  The Final - Christ Church 10 - St. Matthews UMC 3.

St. Matthews also took a 1-0 lead in Game Two this time in the second on a home run by Norman.  Mike P in the first and Andy Coates in the second were stranded after one out singles.  But in the third, Frank Preston tied the game with a lead-off home run.  Mike P was again stranded in the third after another one out single after Frank's HR as was Leah after a two out triple in the fifth.  Mike T gave Christ Church their first lead of the game with a two out HR.  Christ Church added some insurance in the seventh.  Vince Richards led off with a double.  Then, after two outs Leah tripled (RBI); Mike P singled (RBI); and Jerry tripled (RBI).  David's walk failed to drive Jerry in and the inning ended with runners stranded on the corners.  The Final - Christ Church 5 - St. Matthews UMC 1.

Christ Church could manage only five hits in Game Three and only one run. Four of those were when Leah singled in the first; Vince doubled in the second and eighth, moving to third on a sacrifice by Mark; and Mike P singled in the ninth.  St. Matthews plated two in the first on a two out triple by Jim and a single by Freddie after Glenn had opened the game with a single.  Mike T cut the lead in half with a fourth inning home run.   A single by Jim and a triple by Frank erased that run in the seventh and Bruce's error Carl2's single and a triple by Jim and single by Frank ended the scoring.  The Final - St. Matthews UMC 6 - Christ Church 1.
