Christ Church avenged a season opening series loss by winning two out of three Monday night at Portland Presbyterian. Portland had taken two out of three from Christ Church on the first night of league play.
In Game One Christ Church wasted three home runs in a five hit attack. David Stierle and Jerry Hinton had lead-off singles in the second and sixth, respectively, but both died on first. Christ Church's first home run came in the first inning by Mike Thompson to give Christ Church the lead. It was their only lead of the game nd was very short lived. In the bottom of the first, Ron led off with a single and scored in front of and with Dave on a homer. Randall's triple and Ron's single stretched the lead to two in the fifth. Maddie King homered in the sixth to move Christ Church to within a run only to see Randall make it two on a home run in the seventh. In the eighth, Maddie homered a second time to again slice the lead in half. But Jimmie homered in the bottom of the eighth and Christ Church went down in order in the ninth. The Final - Portland 5 - Christ Church 3.
Portland took the first lead in Game Two. Mike Peak singled in the first for Christ Church; Vince Richards doubled in the second; and Dick Lutz singled in the fourth. Barb homered to give Portland a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. This time it was Christ Church to answer straight off. In the fifth after two outs, Mark Nethary homered to tie the game and start a two out rally as Jerry tripled; Mike P singled (RBI); and Dick tripled for a 3-1 Christ Church advantage. Christ Church added an insurance run in the seventh, once again with two outs. Jerry had a second consecutive tripled to set up a single (RBI) by Mike P. In the eighth, Bob Stone reached on an error. The Final - Christ Church 4 - Portland 1.
Christ Church never trailed in Game Three. In the second, Christ Church sent nine batters to the plate. Bob led off with a triple and scored on a single by Maddie. Vince homered (2 RBI) and was followed by a double by Andy Coates. Then with two outs, Mike P and David doubled in a five run, six hit inning. An inning later Bob reached on an error, Vince doubled to put runners on second and third and Andy homered (3 RBI). In the fourth, Mike P singled and scored on Bob's two out triple to close the scoring. Portland was shut out on three hits. Christ Church also got non-run scoring hits from David, a single in the first; Vince, doubles in the fifth and seventh; and Mike P single in the sixth, in a fourteen hit attack. The Final - Christ Church 9 - Portland 0.
